I was just under there replacing the solenoids in the tranny. Stupidly I over torqued a mount bolt and broke it off. Still have three. My rear seal oil leak keeps the rust away but makes it a mess to work on underneath. I will check out getting a replacement then. Ill check the motor mounts as well. Should I replace with stock or are there better parts available?

Groan (and relief) at a memory.

Year and a half ago on the '96 Sport 4.0 auto trans, 'hit a dug-out patch of pavement on an off ramp at about 50. Terrible noise and vibration ensued.

'Just plain snapped all the bolts on both motor mounts; motor "held in by tranny mount." Nursed him home 52 miles.

'Replaced both motor mounts (yes, 'had to drill out all bleeping bolts) AND replaced transmission mount (w/new bolts) , all Jeep OEM parts.

All has been well there with, since. Best of fortune.

While working on replacing the rusted out inner rocker panel and floors (key parts company) I'm not sure if I should just cut out pieces of the replacement panels (seaming them in between the frame rails) or just use the entire panel. I have to make some 14ga blanks to plug the drain holes that I can't get replacement plugs for. I also have to drill the new panel for the seat bolt in the rear. Let me know what you guys think. In the mean time I'll start fabbing up a new front seat brace from scratch.

Chilli in the Crock Pot is like Fire in the Hole.
Loaded the ZJ early and took Dogs to the park.
Daughter's Boston Terrier attacked everything in sight. Bad Dog! On leash. No run for him.
My Rotti however was sweat as pie! Good girl gets treats.
Home by noon. Choice, work on Jeeps vs drink beer, relax, make cookies?
The beer is good. Burnt the cookies. Should have worked on Jeeps.
Chilli smells great. Lots more beer. Dogs get the cookies (can't hold a grudge against the little Boston T).
Day off tomorrow, perhaps will work on Jeeps and drink beer.

Wasn't today, but I finally got around to takin' a little road trip with my buddy from work to find him a Jeep. He ended up stealing a 98 ZJ 5.2 liter with a 3" lift for 900 bucks. Has its problems, sure... but the motor is strong as an ox and the transmission shifts like new. Told him we can fix whatever comes up.

A couple miles down the road, I noticed about 4" of play in the steering wheel - you could literally go from the 11 o'clock to the 12 o'clock position on the wheel without any steering response. Pulled into the parking lot at autozone and pulled the drag link off - the non-replaceable end was so loose you could flick it around like a blade of grass. We replaced that, inspected the tie rod and TRE and they looked good. The trac bar's end was a little loose at frame side, but it was tightened down as far as it would go. He didn't have the money and we were already pressed for time getting back so we drove it as is... actually did pretty good.

I'm definitely diggin' the v8 ZJ.

I'd wager you're the type that says not to put new transmission fluid in an old tranmission too, aren't ya.
