Dana 30 finally in. 3" RE lift installed in the front. So close to 4wd!

My old pump is not usable and was dumping the reservoir in about 3 days (looks like it is leaking from the front pulley shaft) so I figure I will run the bad pump and try to grenade it so Lares is forced to do a full rebuild while I am waiting till the new pump shows up on Thursday.
I have no idea why it is impossible to get a good quality reman'd power steering pump. They are all garbage from my experience.
Is it really that hard to rebuild a power steering pump to where it actually works?? The new one feels much worse than the old one minus the leaking. I am just hoping its not dumping metal shavings into the steering gear...

I killed it, thats what I did! Was coming home from wilkesboro and got to the end of the exit ramp and noticed smoke coming from the hood, got out and oil was puddling underneath and everything was covered back to the tcase. Shut it off, poured the 2 quarts of oil I keep on hand in it, checked coolant and limped the 5 miles to my fiances house. Have no clue what caused it because it held oil pressure and didnt overheat. Just glad I noticed it when I did.
Any thoughts? I guess its time for a rebuild. Know a good kit?

yrs ago on another forum i followed a link to a discussion on this topic. to keep it short the agreement was that a bigger hole let in more air for same pedal pressure so the computer did its job and added more gas to maintain the air fuel ratio. this made it feel like more power for same pedal push but the same could be done by reworking the linkage to open the throttle faster.
there might be an advantage in wide open racing,letting in more air but not in normal driving, other than feeling more power,quicker, pedal feel but no other benefit. i wonder about the purpose??

Renix has a 52mm TB with a 60mm hole in the intake manifold.
HO has a 58mm TB with a 62mm hole in the intake manifold.
Put the 60mm TB on a Renix from Leigh and enjoy it.

Replaced the brake light switch. You'd be surprised how many drivers out there don't remember hand signals from their written test.... stupid steering wheel holders.

Replaced TPS, pulled and cleaned IAC, replaced T-stat and cleaned housing real good. Finished fabbing brackets for tool mounts on roof rack.
Idling great and running a touch cooler than before. Put on some highway miles but not sure it was enough to verify TPS solved my lock up issue.

Here's a weird one.
Always struggled with the Goodyear Gatorback belt ever since I got it 2 years ago. Always wants to squeak when cold/wet out, needed to be super tight as well.
Changed my PS pump this weekend and been chasing a really bad squeak ever since. Even bought a new tensioner pulley though my old one seemed fine.
On a whim, I threw on this random belt I got at the Junkyard for $1 and low and behold, zero squeaks even after I cleaned the belt and all the pulleys (standard procedure for that is to just spray water on the belt and pulleys with the motor running, then spray Dawn dish soap on the belt and let it idle all soapy.)
Ran that above cleaning procedure 3 times for the Goodyear and it only squeaked worse and worse (especially after drying). Ran the same with the random JY belt and never squeaked once....
Maybe my jeep just doesn't like alligators

Apparently RockAuto handles defective parts by telling you either to return the part and they will ship a new one out after the tracking number shows activity - or you can keep the bad part in the car - order a new part and return the old one after I get the new part.

Spent most of the afternoon removing the 4 door visors off of my 2 door xj. Got the visors off easy enough but the old double stick tape was quite resistant to my efforts to remove the residual. Best trick for removal was to spray it down with wd-40, let it soak about 15 minutes and then work it off with a plastic scrapper with a red rag around the end to prevent scratching. did I mention, PATIENCE. Got it all cleaned up, now need to find visors for a 2 door xj.

Put ironman Andy's motor mounts in. Got too dark to finish, don't feel like working by flashlight. In the morning I'll torque the 6 bolts to spec and then do the transmission mount. Excited to see how it changes the feel of the Jeep.

I replaced the passengers side window motor and cables. While tightening the bolts, the tape on the window let go and the window turned into a giateen. Well it didnt succeed to lop my finger off, but it sure took a nice chunk out. To top that off, when the window goes all the way down, it hits the speaker. So it doesnt roll all the way down. At least it works again

It's 30*F out right now, and I took it for a spin earlier and used the defrost immediately - and complete silence. I was about to install an AC disconnect switch for winter because it was so annoying.
Maybe I will finally install a remote starter on it since I can leave it set to defrost now! (even though it's a 5 speed )
Yeah...It is a frustrating warranty policy. I ordered a new one since I can't afford to have my Jeep down for 3-4 days while I wait for them to ship me a new one as I'm shipping my current one back. Its still drivable, I just have a nice puddle in my driveway. Good luck with your grenading!
Well, it's definitely not Rock Auto's fault - 100% on Lares for either not remaning this pump properly, or failing to adequately test it. Considering the price difference vs. the parts store (almost half), I can't really complain but I am definitely going to get a steering gear locally instead of online since those are notoriously hard to rebuild as well.
Actually, I am heavily considering having someone local rebuild a junkyard steering gear box - there is a local shop that does only steering rebuilds and I honestly should have just had them rebuild a JY pump for the power steering instead...

IDK, i am wondering honestly how it could be so temperamental. I put the gatorback on about 2 years ago, and could never start the AC when the jeep was dead cold - unless I was at about 1500+ RPM, otherwise the belt would start shrieking like a banshee
