You folks should drive my J10 at night before you complain about headlights. Better yet, the '79 F150 I had!
When I got my license, I used to drive around in my dad's old '80 F-100, with incandescent (NOT halogen) sealed beams. They were brighter than moonlight, but not by much.
Did a valve cover gasket today thinking maybe I would get lucky and that's where my leak would be from. Nope. Pulled it off and took a little video and sure enough, bone dry on the back side of the motor. So I painted up the valve cover and put it back on. The old gasket looked pretty much brand new. Bummer.
so my engine has a jasper short block in it with about 30,000 miles on it. What's the chance you guys think it's a rear main leaking? Could it possibly just be the pan gasket? There are no signs of leaks on the pan anywhere except for the rear where all the oil is gunked up.
after seeing how new the valve cover gasket was, im having a hard time thinking a 30,000 mile old rear main would be leaking like this. But I could totally be wrong.
Swapped in my warranty replacement injectors, reset the ECU fuel maps, and did wires, cap and rotor while I was in there. Still reading pretty negative on the long term fuel trim. Do the 4 hole injectors pass much more fuel to make the LTFT go really negative? I swapped them because last oil sample report I had 2.5% fuel in the oil and figured one was leaking.
Sending unit and oil filter are clean. Have a tiny leak on the dipstick tube. Don't have a distributor and just did a valve cover. I'm gonna do some more poking around. I'm hoping maybe just pan gasket. Anyone ever heard of a RMS blowing in 30,000 miles?
Also, 5-speed.. to give you a run down on the brackets. The brackets gave me no extra lift which I was pretty happy about. And the shackle, even though it was on the .75" lift setting, netted no extra lift due to it being at a 45 degree angle instead of vertical. The problem is those shackles, and every normal style shackle I could find, all contact the box where they start to get wide. I called JKS, rubicon express, Rusty's, rough country, zone, and IRO, and none of them had anything that would work for me. That's when I found those core4x4 shackles. I think they'll work perfect. Should be here this week.

Thanks for the info. Guess I will order that relocation kit and probably those shackles too. I got some short shackles on order now and hope those bring me back down to 4" for the time being. Did you have to run bolts up in to the rear cargo area?
As for your oil leak, mine ended up being both the rear main and oil sending unit. Hope yours isnt the rear main cause they are no fun to do!
As I have likely told you already; the Jeep has been taking longer and longer to start when cold. Cranking speed is fast - just takes more turning-over before it actually starts.
Yesterday I was thinking about what to do to the Jeep and while looking under the hood thought to check the air filter. It was said to be new - by the last owner - but I thought I'd check anyway.
It looked pristine but, as is my lifelong habit, I reached over and smacked it against the front tire a few times - as at least a gesture towards cleaning it. <g> As we all might expect from a new looking air filter; nothing came off the filter.
I re-installed the air filter and it started to rain so I gave up the idea of doing any Jeep-Work.
This morning first thing, and ever since, the engine has started immediately. So fast that I'm sure you couldn't bump the engine to turn it - it would be started before you could turn the key back to off.
As I effectively did nothing - it must be that a Miracle has occurred. <g>
Didn't do much physically to the xj today. Did research brake lines for the lift I installed. Found the answers here on CF for new lines with part numbers. A little more finger walking on the computer and ordered the new lines. Should be here friday for installation. Took another look at the xj, looking much better with the lift. Will post before and after pics when I figure out how to make them smaller.

yeah two holes in the cargo area. The metal is think though. Not hard to drill out. Had to trim the interior plastics a ltitle bit to get them to fit right also. I'll let you know how the shackles turn out. I'm wanting to be right around 4" too. I had them make me a specific length when I ordered so hopefully I'll have good news to share.
