I just hope that someone has replaced the head before with a Tupy. I forget to check last night when I had the valve cover off. If its a standard 0331, not sure I want to put it back on even if its not cracked.
Might be a good candidate for a budget stroker build

Discovered the pain of installing a thermostat as it fell out and I didn't notice.

If I decide to keep it and if I have to rebuild it, yes.

You got it home somehow. Im sure you can also figure something out for the 1500 miles it would need to go. But just think, once its here, ill pull the trans for you and you can take it. Dont worry about the comanche, ill take care of the rest of it. Look on the positive side, you will have nothing to tow home. Win win situation as I see it.

How did you not see it fall out? And not to be mean but if you think installing a thermostat is a pain, a Jeep is not for you.

Bummer, back to square one. I have no idea why it is skipping and acting like an LSD in tight turns on the dirt? I can even see it in the tracks it leaves.
Not to tell you something you don't already know, but it sounds like there's a chunk of something floating around in the spiders. I'm sure there's a decent junk yard or two near you. Might wanna try your luck finding an 8.25 out of the JY with the TracLok in it. I mean, you can buy the LSD carrier and everything you need to convert it on Rock Auto, but that's big cheese!

I do too. That's one of my favorite colors on the 97+ XJs

Try throwing in some better bulbs. The stock incandescents that come with those cheap lights aren't worth their weight in carbon.

I agree. Anyone who says they suck to work on, they need to work on some other cars to understand. Like something fwd.
Agreed. I'd rather dismantle the whole engine on my XJ than work on anything in my wife's 300m any day of the weak. Big PITA.

I think we've all done that at least once.

Yah it didn't completely fall out so it left a gap in the housing and when I started it up it was puking coolant.

Deal with it tomorrow and hope the thermostat or housin g isn't damaged.

If it's about to go south on me, I would rather invest the cost into a matching new 3.55 gear set and spring pads for the Ford 9" LSD I rounded up here in my own stuff already and ditch the C clip 8.25.

Heavy grease to hold it in place for you is your friend.

the motors can easily be pulled from the top of needbe. remove the hood and radiator, drop the cradle about 1.5-2”, support the tq tube with a jack and start unplugging stuff. 15 hours? you’ve been around that shop too long.

That is true but I find that it takes longer that way and it is a very tight squeeze out. Those engines sit so far under the cowl its not even funny. You cant even get your hand back there! And 15 hours was to pull the engine out (and everything else) and put it back in.

Neglected the ZJ last night due to comfiness of the couch, woke up a bit early and got to work late but managed to fix the defroster blower motor and the drivers side headlight. Felt like driving a whole new Jeep with 2 working headlights and heat in the 15* weather

Thanks. That was a big must for us wen we were looking at houses. I needed a place to work on stuff and a place for my reloading bench. Got a block shop, 2 garages, a wood shop, a tractor barn, and a basement.

Sounds like you'll have plenty of opportunity to stay out of the wife's way.
