What did you do to your Cherokee today?

I took my wife's 01 grand Cherokee out for a 75 mile roundtrip and made it in about 40 miles. The jeep showed me it's Christmas spirit by lighting up the dash board and shutting off the gauges (no miles regestered). It drove fine the whole way home. The door locks actuated occasionally, the tac and spedo came on together, and the rest of the gauges worked off and on independently. Get a jeep she said...it's the gift that keeps on giving.
I cleaned the 4 grounds under the hood and so far so good (15 mile test drive).

Stripped down and about to get pressure washed before I go any further. I cant stand working on things covered in nasty junk. And my garage now looks like a 4.0L bomb went off.

There was no way I was going to get an even crush and seal on the gasket...

Have you put a straight edge on that deck yet? Especially around the coolant ports? Mine were raised from the natural "bubbling" effect and I had to hand mill around those a bit to make them flat again. From what it looks like yours might be alright. Mine were all raised about 5-7 thousands.

That would help if it's not. Mine wasn't warped but around all the ports it was raised quite a bit. They put all those ports in the block and then block them off with the gasket. I don't know why but it causes it to bubble up around each port. I'm thinking this could be a cause for so many "I just did the head gasket" but they are still having problems.

Tried to replace my extension housing bushing and seal. Got everything apart but found out I had the wrong bushing and seal. Nothing was open so now hoping I can get the parts I need Tuesday morning before leaving out that afternoon for my honeymoon in the Smokies.

Ill have to take a closer look at it. Not sure if any of it is raised up or not. I may just bring home a straight edge from work and find out for myself. This engine did have a fresh head gasket and head so who knows....
