Went to the pick n pull to get a fan pulley, because I could not for the life of me find the one I had. Picked up a starter, too, since mine was pretty brown looking and didn't turn as freely as I would like.
Got everything ready to reinstall the power train into Black Bertram now though! Don't have another set of hands to help me drop it, so that might have to wait till next Friday.
Installed an Overhead Console from a late 90's ZJ I pulled at Pic-N-Pull. Had to shorten the mounting screw shank and cut off the tab for the harness that is oposite of the OE wiring harness for my 1991 XJ Limited but it works great and the compass and outside temp display work now too.
I bought a solar battery charger from Harbor Freight. https://www.harborfreight.com/15-wat...ger-62449.html . It was $14 so I figured why not. In the ad it says "Put this compact solar battery charger on your car's dashboard for a steady trickle charge." Well I have learned over the years not to trust cheap stuff so I read the directions first. It clearly says in there, more than once, "Do not hook to a battery without a charge controller." Hmmm. I figured it was so low output that it wouldn't need a charge controller. So I set it on the dash in the sun and tested the output with a meter. 18.2 volts! Now... one could argue that at such a low amperage that 18 volts won't damage a battery, as they charge at 14.7 anyway. But... not sure I want to take that chance. However, I don't even see that they offer a charge controller for this unit. The smallest one I see is 100 watts. This thing is 1.5 watts. I mean I can easily regulate it down to 14 volts but it is one more thing to buy and hook up. So I looked on YouTube and there are several reviews that say it works great on a car battery without a charge controller. And some report it puts out up to 23 volts and still does not harm the car battery. Also with the correct setup you can use it as a USB charger too for phones, cameras and such. So I think it was a good purchase. Just thought I would share.

You can get solar controllers off of ebay for less than $10. Some of them come with USB charging ports.
A 5a should work. It will regulate the output to 12v, and it will auto shut off when the battery is charged.

They all say that to cover their butts. The only thing you want to make sure of is that it has an inline blocking diode. It should have came with one but they are cheap if you have to add one.
Found this in a junkyard yesterday for $40. Gonna slap a coat of paint on it and put it on today. Was gonna fix the dent in it, but it'll prob get more anyway. lol
Replaced the Ujoints in the front driveshaft. I had never done a double cardan shaft before. Quite the experience.
I am trying to solve a clunk clunk clunk when in 4H and 4L. only going forward under power in part time. both in a straight line and turning. not when coasting and not in reverse. I don't feel it in the steering at all. No play/binding that i can see or feel anywhere and its not super loud
if this doesnt do the trick I am going to pull the Tcase drop and see what happens
I guess not today, but a recap of the weekend. Drove 4 hours to Windrock on Thursday. Wheeled well into the night and picked some guys up that had broken their razor and left it at least 10 miles from the trail head. Friday, wheeled it all day, and got this then we stopped and ate dinner. After dinner we hit some trails and it started idling high and not shifting out of first. Tps and torque converter codes. Got to the road and it wouldn't shift right. Down shift downhill, slip and not up shift. Just a mess. So we did a trans fluid drain and fill at a gas station in the rain laying in kerosene. (More on the tps and torque converter problems later). Went back to camp for the night, then the next day it was still on the fritz till the alternator died (I'm assuming somehow the alternator was causing the problems), then the check engine light went off, no more high idle, shifted perfect, but we were deep in Windrock. So we book it to the nearest road, when we get there my roommate and I are both aired down, sway bars disconnected and he broke the tcase shifter linkage so he was stuck in 4 low. Cruised into town in the rain and changed the alternator in a bank parking lot and headed back to windrock, then it really started to pour and we called it a night. Today I cruised back 4 hours then did a fuel pump in the Comanche and then drove an hour from my parents house to my apartment, and now we are here. Btw Windrock is a really cool place with ALOT of cool history and things to see.
Glad you got to experience the park. I'm from Knoxville and wheeled there a bunch. A bit expensive for some, but totally worth it in my eyes. What trails did you run?
