I have seen backyard wrenches try to save something like that Earl. The cost of the solder was more than a new core. lol

"The number of vehicles that come into work with either dry oil dipsticks or dry transmission dipsticks would surprise you."

It would also tick me off! No reason for it.

The C4 except for the overfill issue, was probably the toughest auto trans ever built. One of Ford's shinier moments.

In fact all the issues that plagued the Bronco II C3 auto trans can be fixed by adding another clutch plate which turns it into a C4. The trans is tougher than the clutch pack on these. Another case of trying to save a few cents that went way wrong and cost the consumers millions.

Was that Royal Purple or dirty trans case fluid?

The AW4 that I swapped into my Jeep for the 4wd conversion was presumed "no good" by the previous owner. Thanks to Lee's advice, I pulled the dipstick on the transmission and the fluid was brown. Swapped the transmissions, used my torque converter, NSS, and TCU, then drained the brown-as-motor oil transmission fluid out and put fresh fluid in. Shifted like a brand new transmission ever since.... new owner can vouch too!

Got a front license plate bracket for free... Didn't get my rear disc parts though—see the wrgmg thread.

Took the side trim off and heat gunned the flares. The side trim was pretty easy with the right stuff (3M adhesive remover wheel & goof off) The heat gun worked, but it's a bit splotchy in places. I think I'd inevitably like to paint match these flame red. Regardless, it's better than the old faded trim. I have a two-color scheme now instead of a three haha!

Got a good chunk of the heater core replacement done. Should be all good tomorrow. Then on to a new radiator.

It hasn't been bad. Just time consuming. Surprisingly, its going back in faster then it came out. Normally its the opposite.

Btw - I didn't have to go to lowes to get that mat. My buddy had a chunk of foam that worked perfect.

Or for friends who happen to have one. It's a little known factoid.
