I have done it that way too. Or rotate the engine back and forth slightly. But why did the pump slot change position while I had it out? I have never been able to carefully slowly pull one out and have the pump slot still be positioned where it should be when I put it back. Shouldn't it turn to where the gear comes free and then still be lined up when you put it right back in the same reverse order with the same proper gear mesh? Somehow it never stays lined up in the same place it came out from. I think maybe what oil is still above the pump gears gravity flows back down through the gears and turns them a bit once the drive shaft is free to prevent this.

Yep, that's what I was kind of joking about. It has always bugged me that they do this. lol I know that it helps to make visual reference somewhere on the engine, or other parts in the compartment that the rotor is pointed directly at when the gear teeth just come free of the cam drive. This way you have a fairly accurate reference where it needs to be pointed as it starts back into the teeth again going back in.

So many new parts.... Its almost there but now I need to replace idler pulley and tensioner. Plan to replace radiator as well as I'm not sure the state of mine as there was massive amounts of gravel in the bottom of the radiator.
Gotta knock out the lower passenger freeze plug on the front because after the debris that came out on the driver side I really don't want to be putting gravel back into the system.

Ignored the Comanche's problems and actually worked on my Cherokee. Got new unit bearings on and got most of the way through a trans cooler install. One of the little ziptie things fell apart so I'll have to steal one off my cart at work and then finish it up.

New steering stabilzer, began tearing apart for new tie rods, ball joints and axle u-joints.
Monroe Magnum SC2928,,, ebay $27.** shipped.
Passenger side. New JK shocks !
Driver side.
Check out the sway bar ! Looks like the driver side has more arc ? I've suspected that it was bent. Steering wheel went off center when I installed the poly bushings. The old rubber ones were hamburger !
I 'll post more tomorrow ! Got a bunch going on ! New SSTL brake lines, ZJ rear disc swap, Aussie Lokka lunch box in the rear ! Da-duh, da-duh, da-duh ,,,,

finished installing the trans cooler. Hopefully that's big enough to keep her cool. Drove it for the first time since the unit bearings and man is it quieter now. I guess they gradually went bad so I never really was like bam that's not normal. Also, looks like my trucklites have condensation in them....

My trucklites have been fine for a year and a half.
took the jeep up to the top of the street. Tried to get a picture with the huge red moon in the background but couldn't.
