It's an aftermarket wiring set up, and I'm working with the person I got it from to try and figure it out right now.

I'm also a big fan of lube locker gaskets for the differential covers. Don't have to wait for sealant to set or cure.

You wait for it to set and cure before filling?!

Standard RTV, yes it must cure before gear oil is introduced. The lube locker gasket is instant on and off of diff cover and fluid fill. Can be reused indefinitely.

I've actually never seen a single person let it cure before filling. In the shop or any of my buddies.

I was following product instructions regarding RTV. Would rather follow your crews ideas however, as long as i don't end up with weeping covers.

RTV Black ideally should cure up for 3-4 hours before filling. It says 24 hours but I have never had a leak waiting ~6 hours to fill (unless it is really cold out).

The Permatex "RightStuff" is my favorite. Never leaks and ready to fill in 5 minutes.
I have not tried a Lube Locker but I really want to. Your diff mating surface should be gouge-free though, which mine is not.

this. ive employed the rtv method for well over a decade and never had an issue. to be fair, i also ensure the mating surfaces are clean enough to eat off of, as long as you like a mild after taste of brake clean.

I'll chime in.

I used the right stuff black for a while, RTV, and now have the Lube Locker gaskets.

Spend the money on the LL gaskets. Way easier, cleaner, no scraping after removing... worth every penny.

The other benefit to LL gaskets is not needing RTV in the case of a trail fix

If it leaks THAT bad, you can use our swamp buggy/mudbogger trick. Pack the diff housing with a tube or two of bearing grease. Yes, a grease gun and at least one spare tube are always in my Jeep.

It will get you off the trail and home.

RTV is always useful on the trail for various gaskets and seals. Even with lube lockers you could use it to seal other leaks
