The problem is, trying to polish an oxidized surface is work in futility.

If you want to bring it back to life more long term till you can save for a good paintjob(dont go maaco, you'll regret it later man), it can be done. Its a good bit of work, but youd be amazed how good itll look.

Wetsand the bad areas first, do the whole panel section(bodyline to bodyline), not just in spots. Work your way down to finer grits.

1500(if its really rough), then 2000, then 3000 grit. Dont go crazy, youre not sanding the paint off, just smoothing it. Start on a small inconspicuous spot till you get a feel for it.

Beg, borrow, steal... or rent a buffer. Wool compounding pad, foam polishing pad. 3M makes it easy. Lol, theyre labeled "step 1" "step 2" and "step3". 1 is compound, 2 is polish. When bringing back old paint, youll never need step 3.

Compound it with the wool pad, just be careful on edges.

Wipe it clean with a microfiber towel.

Polish(step2) with the foam pad.

Wipe it down again.

...

Stand back and be impressed with yourself.

I bet that would work for most of the side body panels-- the roof and hood are thrashed though-- clear coat pretty much gone.

So the spline length overall is about 7" and I have I think around 1.5-2" exposed when bolted in. That leaves me with 4.5-5" of spline travel so I am good.

Regarding the ujoints... since the Jeep uses 1310 joints Ford decided on the shaft to use 1330 joints. The difference with the ujoints is in the width not the cap.

1310 = 3.219
1330 = 3.622

So to make this work you need a 1310/1330 ujoint x 2

I may take you up on this !!! With the black hood and top !!! If I spend money on a GOOD paint job, she's not leaving the pavement !!! Today was miserable hot ! I only installed my Autopal headlights, new headlight harness, Phillips Xtreme Vision 130% bulbs. Then I replaced the old chrome bezels with black ones !!! The headlight upgrade is a definite recommendation!!! Try to get some pics tomorrow. I cleaned inside the headlamps, but need to lick my calf over !!!

Fantastic. That particular part number is priceless. Does it look like an inch and a half is still going to be plenty enough for length compression without jamming? Sounds like it should be good.

Hot again here today,,, I did install a new Mopar underhood, engine compartment light fixture !!! Plus, I hit the kitchen, mop and broom section at the Dollar store. Found just what I was looking for ! One of the long handled sponge or foam tall glass bottom scrubby thangs !!! I needed it to clean the film from the inside of the lense on my AutoPal Euro Headlights! I tried 3x washing with Dawn, rinsed in hot water, then rinsed with distilled water, then used air to dry em. They still had a film over 1/2 of the inside after all that ! I couldn't tell till I turned the lights on at dark to aim them ! So now, I have to do it again. So just remember, scrubby thang, Dollar Store. I took that thang home for $1.50 !!! By the way, anybody got any good extra headlight bucket Torx adjusting screws layin round ? Two of mine were rotten ! I don't think that they had ever been adjusted,,, Kryloil, hammer, while turning to get them to break free !!! Even the little short screws on the retaining ring were frozen in time !!! Not sure what I'm going to be getting into tomorrow ??? Got a few things in mind. It's all in the details, the little things add up !!! I got my two different style screw extractor sets in. I may tackle a four certain broken bolts ?

You're right Earl ! Used it for years ! But had ran out ! I pulled up some post from somewhere that said to do what I did ! I'm going to scrub it this time. Someone else said Acetone ???
