Been thinking of trimming my flares back some. Do they stay fairly ridged?
I think they're perfect trimmed back. Rigid enough to hold their shape and keep brush/small branches at bay. Lol and just flimsy enough to bend before your fenders do.
Had to google to find out that's only 43.5 mph. Your right. It's time.
It was worse. I could only do about 20-30 and then have it happen. Fixed that with a new track bar and fixing the sway bar as it was pointing up at about 10 degrees

That would work. And I reckon a bit more mud wouldn't hurt.

I've never had to deal with DW on mine but have experienced it on some big rigs. No fun at all.
So, if you had it to do over, what bumper would you get? I'm stuck on the grossly overpriced JCR stuff ! Just keep coming back to it ? Whatever I end up with, I'm leaning towards just buying a Hobart 140 Handler and getting the DIY kit ! Even giving serious thought to going ahead and buying the Hobart 12CI Plasma Cutter too ! Then I can just fab up my own ! I'd much rather spend the money for tools than bumpers! Still yet, your rig is looking righteous!!! Love red or white jeeps !!! Mines green, but it's grown on me,,,
I have JCR front winch bumper with hoop from 10 years ago and it is very nice. If i had money i would have no problem buying the deluxe cut-and-fold rear bumper for $1500. My jeep was only $1200 10 years ago.
Now my buddy got a pre-runner non winch with a receiver about 6 months ago. I'm not sure its as good quality as before. Maybe its just this bumper because no winch plate but it straight up looks like a chinese factory build bumper. Maybe there is a knock off JCR company somewhere?
I dig their new bumpers but i cant really get one because my old one is so dang good. I do have 2 XJ's though and my girlfriend drives the other she could use extra protection with my kiddo in the heep. Maybe that will be excuse come tax season!
They still do a fairly decent job of catching mud. Kinda, lol.
And on the plus side, getting rid of the lip make hosing out the mud a lot easier.
For easy cleaning was the main reason I've got the front and rear like it is. I've got 1/2 mile drive to the hard cap road from the house. Mud any time it rains or dust if it doesn't.
Some more putzing around with the interior. Awhile back I picked up some '97 and up cargo bay covers. They kinda suck cause it is just a tarp and not roll out one like in '96's and down. First one I think is a '97 or '98. Cause of the lighter color. Also just like with the fancy '96 down ones there are ones for full size spares and space saver spares. I believe the gray one to be a space saver spare one. It is a couple inches wider then the one in the second shot.
Now that is out of a '99. So it is Camel. What would be in my Jeep. That also is a full size spare one. See the fuzzy tire carrier. It connects to that on that side with the D-Rings attached to it. So since my spare tire cover is out of a '98 GC 5.9 it does not have D-Rings on it. If it came out of a European Orvis XJ then it would.
I look at many pictures of Jeeps, especially interiors, and one thing I notice is that not all have the tie downs on all four corners. Talking about the higher up ones. Mine does and I got the Jeep that way. See the shot of my Jeep where I tried to cirlce them. So a quick to Joanne Fabrics for some nylon webbing, D-rings, the adjustment tabs, and hooks I made extensions to reach the tie downs.
I am almost tempted to run the cover upside down with the black up. What do you guys think? Also wondering if I could dye the gray black and use that instead.
At some point the real goal is to get a '96 and down cover in there somehow. The main obstacle is that I think the cover would be light gray. And of course sourcing the parts. The holders for the cover screwed into the plastic might not be to bad to source. I see new covers online but pretty sure they are all for right hand drive so finding a used cover could be challenging. I saw where a guy made one out of curtain rods but it did not roll up. Got me thinking about using the wooden dowel part of a window shade. Those snap and roll up. LOL.
And since Joanne's was right by Wally World I picked up something to hold my 160 GB iPod.
Normally I just use the vent ones but this can also attach to other places so I might try out the windshield, dash, etc to see if I like it better. Pretty sure it will end up in the vent.
And just for the record. From time to time people see some of my shots and ask where did you get "fill in the blank". I always say the same thing. Persistence pays off. Ebay or Craigslist. One of my suggestions is just don't look in the part sections but look at XJ's for sale. That Camel cargo cover. Some guy was selling a '99 XJ local to me. I spotted in the pictures he posted. Called him up and a 15 minute drive and $20 later it was mine. Was funny too cause by the time I got there somebody was there checking out the Jeep. Fortunately for me he got it out just before they showed up. There is always an outside chance the seller will part with whatever. Won't know till you ask.
