I have the RE 4.5 super flex kit on mine. I like it...just a heads up, I think it sits a little higher than 4.5 inches. I also put in a SYE in to help with vibrations (and so I could use a front driveshaft in the rear). My next step it to add angled shims under the leafs to get the driveshaft angle 100% where it should be. If you're really trying to go cheap I would suggest maybe sticking with 3.5" to avoid vibrations and added parts. I did a mixed parts 3.5 on an older XJ I had (coil lift, leaf lift, and transfer case drop) and it rode fine.

When I was first getting into the modded XJ game back in 2013, I bought an RE kit. Everything except the leafs are now replaced, which is why I recommend going piece by piece. I did staybwist RE for control arms, but moved to adjustable ones rather than the fixed ones that came with the Super Ride kit.

RE springs have pretty high spring rates, so if handling and weight carrying is important, go with them. If ride is important, go with Zone or Old Man Emu. Whatever you do, get good shocks.

Thanks for the input! I will be pulling a small trailer and camper from time to time. I’ve also added a winch bumper and winch to the front. Which is pretty heavy. I’ve read where some guys have added coil spacers up front to compensate for this. I want to keep it as level as I can. What do you consider “good shocks”?

Finished up reinstalling the interior after the carpet dried. Also did a smoke check using my home made smoke tester and found no leaks on the intake side of the throttle body. I had a small leak from the intake hose going into the throttle body and another click on the ratcheting clamp fixed it up.

Ones that cost more than $60 a piece hahaha! I've been very happy with the Bilstein 5100s I have on my rig. They match the high spring rates I have (250lb coils in the front, RE leafs in the rear). The ride is a little choppy at times, but it handles really well for a lifted Jeep. My stock one is so loose and soft compared to my rig, which feels sharp and tight.

I will say the RE springs aren't very flexy and it's taken six years for my stock shackles to have an angle other than 90 degrees. If I were you, I'd look at some sort of shackle relocation kit or boomerang shackles to get a better angle to compensate for the aggressive arch RE leafs tend to have. And don't take their word for it when it comes to lift height. RE is a manufacturer of lies. I have 4" coils and even still, I have a slightly positive rake with the 3.5" leafs that are six years old with a ton of road and trail miles.

My 4.5" rubicon express leaf springs with 1.25" shackles sits an 1" lower than the 5.5" coils from them. They also flex out really well on the trails. I have my stuff paired with 12" bilsteins and shackle relocators. What did you do to your Cherokee today?-photo188.jpg it's not too noticeable at most angles, but I think you can see the 1" difference in this picture. I am in no way bashing RE or recommending against them. I plan on buying another set of springs from them when these really bite the dust. They've done a lot better than the RC leafs I had and they seems to ride and flex better than anyone else in the club I'm in, so I call that a win.

RE 3.5" coils are trash compared to others. I'm talking spring rate so high it doesn't unload and will just fall out of it's seat when flexing hard. I've had to chase mine down the trail before switching to Superlift 550 4" coils with 160lb spring rate. The superlift coils sit 2 coil lengths taller and feel like a cloud over rocks in comparison. Can't beat them for the price off Summit. RE's 4.5" coils are good though, just not their 3.5" coils.

Bought and installed some NGK V Power spark plugs based on some research that they would play well with my 4.0. It was a risk as I've never used anything but Champion Copper Cores in the past. Got them in and went for a 50 mile ride on northbound I-75 to test them out.

Turns out, for my particular 4.0, it runs better than ever with these plugs. Not sure if it's related to the new header I recently installed or not but the slight hesitation and slightly rough idle every 25 seconds or so is now gone. Happy camper.

I was pretty shocked to find all my Champion plugs were way out of gap. Those plugs have only about 5K or 6K miles on them. Other than the gap being way too close, the old plugs showed normal signs of wear and tear. Is that normal or is that indicative of some other problem?
