new jeep
Well we finally bought it. This jeep has been coming into the shop I work at for 5 years and we have been trying to buy it the whole time. He finally decided to sell it so my dad bought it. 98 5.9 limited garaged since new. Bought it off the original owner who ordered it from the factory. Got the window sticker with his name on it and everything. I have never seen one in better condition.

So I think I went a little heavier then usual with the Fluid Film last October. Power washed under the Jeep today with Purple Power and am in the process of blowing it off. There are places I know I hit and there is Fluid Film still there.
This is why I love Fluid Film. LOL.
While it is still in the air tomorrow I will check all the nuts and bolts like I do every year. And after finding that little 10mm timing cover bolt had backed out and was right against my harmonic balancer will make sure to check those too from now on.

Crawled under the '00 today to check every nut and bolt I could see. All was well.
Could not get at my front leaf spring bolts cause the brackets for the running boards are in the way.
Bringing my 7 thru 18 mm 12 point combination wrenches, short 9, 10, and 11 mm sockets, and 17, 18, 19, and 21 mm
in both regular and deep made it so I had everything I needed to check what I could get at.

So how does the push button start work? I know with factory optioned push button start you can press a button on the door handle to unlock and then you get in and push the button to start it, which makes it nice and easy keeping your keys in your pocket (well fob really I guess) so with that set up, do you still need to use the key to unlock the door then you just get in and push the button instead of putting the key in and starting it?
You can still use the key to lock unlock by pressing the buttons, But not needed.
Same set up as original installed push to start, you depress the brake pedal and touch the start button and voila, car starts.
In my case was really easy, my car does not use a chip on the key and i did not have to cut a key to keep it on the ignition switch.

Got the transmission yanked and mostly disassembled. Replacing all the electronics, doing a shift kit and a few upgraded internals. And replacing all the clutches and seals while I'm at it.
Then on to the main wiring harness once I find another 96 engine harness

To finish out the day I applied Fluid Film to specific areas. Some I soaked with PB Blaster then "sealed" it in with the Fluid Film. I always do the E Brake Adjustment like that. Same with the leaf spring, shackle, control arms, etc bolts. All the bushings just get Fluid Filmed with the uni-body and the supports for my running boards.
I love Fluid Film but the extension wand for the spray cans as always leaved a little to be desired. Cause of how it stays coiled. Awhile back I came across this 3M wand kit you use with their cavity wax. I liked how they are straight. But they will not fit on Fluid Film cans. Know how there are 2 types of sprayers for spray cans. The traditional with the wand that goes in the can, how Fluid Film is, and the one where the top has the wand that goes in the can. Was able to take the wand off the second type and put it on the Fluid Film wand top.

I believe I can probably officially put a pin in the "U joint Fiasco" for now. After some deliberation and experimentation I have concluded that one of the snap rings wasn't seating fully which was blowing out caps. You gotta love how tough the XJ is. I blew a cap on the U joint that connects the slip yoke to the drive shaft going 60 mph...there was a loud bang, I pulled over and realized what had happened, and then DROVE IT HOME the 2 miles. New cap and snap ring, re greased, good to go. Fingers crossed LOL.
This was about as fun as the ball joints and every bit as crucial, but alas...
