I'm sure you were. Thing is if you make your living using tools and equipment such as Snap-on sells you only have to buy once. My son bought me (really us) one of these years back. It was $150 cheaper back then.

My buddy spends money on his tools. If his is not a Snap On then it is a Matco. If I needed to be precise with something that is one thing I would try to borrow from him before I went and bought one.
Pretty sure he would let me use it. LOL.
Also probably one of the few things I would not buy used of either.

For your info I bought a HF torque wrench with the same features as my Snap-on to keep in my XJ. It compared equally with the Snap-on when both were set alike. Now how long the HF one would stay in calibration if used for hours every day is another matter.

They don't see much action.

Harbor Freight quality has been improving lately, though there is still junk there to be sure. Most of their stuff seems to be OK for home use. I have a lot of old Craftsman tools but in recent years with Craftsman made in China and Sears circling the drain I've been buying at HF.

So far with all the tools I've gathered over the years I've been able to do anything I need done. Other than the new floor jack I bought after finally wearing out my large one the only tools I've bought in quite a few years were the flaring tool Ralph posted about awhile back an infrared gun and the HF torque wrench. The nearest HF to me is ~2hrs east or north. Been there twice and wouldn't hesitate to buy tools there. I was a Craftsman and PowerCraft fan for years but they're pretty much history.

Bought some Griot's Complete Compound and removed a lot of blemishes in the paint. The stuff is great. Did it by hand. The tougher one's will be the heavier scratches which I'll use the orbital polisher on.

Unitl recently when they closed down the one near me. Now the closest one is probably 40 minutes away.
But I am guessing I can still deal with Lowe's for warranty stuff. Closest one is no more then 25 minutes away.
HF is about 15 minutes away so that is convenient.
I really miss Sears cause of the ShopYourWay Rewards program.
Not much for stuff like that, yeah sure I do have the supermarket cards, but signed up for it on a whim.
It was one of the smartest things I did. I made out like a bandit with that.
Some examples.
The 300 piece every socket they sell set. Paid $215 for. Now realize I paid more but how it worked is they gave you cash towards your next purchase.
So I want to say I paid about $260 out the door, cause it was also on sale, but they gave me $45 towards my next purchase.
On one purchase, that I can't remember, they gave me $60 towards my next purchase. But they broke it down to a $50 first and $10 a few weeks later.
I used the $50 to buy a Dewalt 18V angle grinder. Cost me $95 - $50 and came to $45. Since I already owned some 18V Dewalt stuff it worked.
Once they just gave me $20. For no reason.
And with being able to use it at Kmart it was no problem spending the cash back I got from purchases.
You can never have to much underwear, socks, cheap jeans, t-shirts, etc. LOL.
To bad it is not lucrative like that anymore.

This weekend did: oil change, front brakes and rotors, new plugs, AC recharge, some minor body work and greased all fittings on the front end / drive shafts. Inspected everything along the way. Also pinned up the hanging headliner which is a quick fix but not the prettiest.

Ordered a new radiator, painted recently acquired mirrors (from You Pull It), and cleaned the engine compartment.

that's probably the primary difference right there EZ.... for most things us being our own mechanics on our own vehicles HF would be just fine.... but if working as a professional mechanic in an actual shop, day in/ day out... then that's where the bigger $ investment in a more quality based set would show its true worth.

I did a better patch on my roof.... in her former life, my XJ was a county service vehicle with an antenna mounted through the roof, it was removed prior to me getting her. It had a functional yet IMHO a substandard way to patch that hole. So after visiting a good local repair shop and learning they couldn't weld in a perm. patch how I would like it done...and the cost would be ^^^$.... I visited a shop that specialized in RV repair...and got me a good chunk of what they use to perm. seal exterior damage on RV's that I was told is completely water proof and long lasting..pulled the old layers of patch off mine down to the metal...prepped it...and put that on.. Wow...that stuff is crazy sticky. They weren't kidding when they said you get one shot at putting it on. It's so sticky that if the space shuttle ran over the adhesive side... it would never get off the ground!!
Let it cure for a day... then just painted to match. At a very reasonable 5 bucks for a foot of the stuff off a big roll...and 15 mins worth of prep... Even if it only lasted a couple seasons, I'd do it the same way again.

The jack was a gift I got for my brother. He helps me fix all of my vehicles and I surprised him with it. He loves it so much I swear he washes and waxes it. The quality is evident when you use it - it’s solid and operates 10x better than his previous autozone jack. I paid $250 ish for it - would highly recommend it to anyone.
