Interesting. Took one look at mine, felt how stiff it was, did a few snips, and it was out. No little bits. Maybe yours was a lot more brittle than mine.
Or maybe I'm just an Inherently Superior Human Bing!

Sounds like an inferior grommet. My 1996 vintage factory grommet has a lip at the bottom that keeps it from coming out of the valve cover. Also, the fitting captured in the grommet was busting apart at every glance.

Yeah, that lip is a pain, but mine pulled out without disintegrating, so I'm guessing yours was just a lot more brittle.

I adjusted my drum brakes last night.
Today, I got to lay in a rain puddle in a down pour in the parking lot of a not-close-to-home Advance auto as I un-adjusted one of them before it burned my XJ to the ground. (I got one too tight during the initial adjustment).
My cabin was filled with brake smoke, and my clothes wreak of it now. Doh!
Note to self...in the future when your gut tells you that you are probably adjusting one of your rear brakes too tight...it should be listened to.

That's how I do it, and I slowly turn and stop when it gets hard to spin the tire by hand. I am a forklift mechanic and that's how we are trained. We also back off the parking brakes prior to adjusting, since they pull from a different spot on the shoes.

Not sure of your process, but always always always adjust in neutral, and rear tires off the ground lol.

I'll be a little more careful next time.

So when I upgraded my battery cables I kinda Mickey Moused my fog light ground and power to the relay.
Made it better today. If everything goes according to plan this is just temporary.
Next year I hope to have a central place for all relays and an aux fuse box.
A Quick squirt of Fluid Film on the battery cables is all that is left.
With some luck this is the last time I will work on the Jeep till next Spring.

Yesterday, did my weekly PMCS and found a small leak from the bottom of the coolant recovery bottle. Pulled bottle to take a look and found a "fix" by one of the previous owners on the bottom of the bottle involving RTV sealant. Ordered a new one from Rock Auto should be here Mon or Tues.

Topped off the oil. There's a small leak somewhere but not big enough to chase down until next Spring. Hooked up the OBDLink scanner and took it for a drive to see how everything's working. Looks good. Put together an emergency bag and a towing bag to keep in the cargo area.

Attempted to secure that stupid breather-to-intake hose* with some shrink tube. Got the wrong size, 1/2" does not fit over the breather fitting. Got some more to try tomorrow.
*I lost the valve cover to intake box tube assembly and can't find the right one (straight with a 90 degree at the manifold breather fitting) so I replaced with a 9/16" rubber line that fits snug on air box, loose on breather fitting. Need to snug up breather fitting side, and this is a pretty stupid design.
