Hey even with one of the parking light connector wires broken I still thought it was worth it.
I have been in parts hoarding mode for awhile now.
And for some reason I got it in my head to start sourcing harnesses.
If the price is right.
Have all 4 doors, headlight, hatch, wiring from the ground area behind the spare to the hatch, and a couple others I am probably forgetting.

Thank you, Ralph, that is *exactly* my situation and currently what's under there. Cursory searches revealed that some XJs in that year range apparently have the circular "catalytic mounting bracket" but that's not what I have. Wondering if they are interchangeable? Also looking at some aftermarket tranny mounts. This clanging on startup is annoying. It does go away after 30 seconds but still, annoying at startup.
LOL.

Got an IR thermometer to check temps, seems like coolant is running on the cool side after a radiator and thermostat replacement. Thermostat checked out at 195F before installation.
For some reason the forum is not letting me post pix. Was getting 196.3F at the thermostat housing directly in front of thermostat, if I was measuring the right spot, after a short drive. Dash gauge was reading a little higher than my new normal when I took the reading too.
Will try again when I get home without shutting down and see what I get. I think the housing neck by the upper hose read a little higher.

The horn in my 94 had stopped working, the relay was still clicking. So figured the horn went bad or the connection was corroded. When I got under it to check it out, found there was no horn and the feed wire was cut. so now not get the thieves get my fuel door XJ plate, but also the horn. And it sits in my front yard, mere feet away from the house. Lucky I have extra things like that. Soldered on a new connector mounted the horn with nylock nuts and allen head bolts. Now to flush the heater core on the 01.

Replaced the 4 AWG wire between PDC and battery. Had one that was too long in there, the new one from Rural King is 16" long and fits about right.
"Cleaned up" firewall ground connection on woven tinned grounding strap. That 15 mm bolt is in there right tight from the factory. No gross corrosion, just typical surface oxidization. Buffed away some paint and buffed up the antislip ring connector with 220 sand film, used a little dielectric grease on the threads and tightened it back down. Shot it with silicone spray.
Replaced that wee little 10 mm grounding sheet metal screw on the inner driver's side fender with a stainless one from Ace Hardware. The one where two black wires ground next to the air intake box. No corrosion there to speak of either. Used gray antiseize on the threads, shot it with silicone spray after a right good snugging down.
Reckon I could have used my spiffy new torque wrenches for this, but I never did know the tq spec for those anyway.

Newbie
Yesterday, I installed a new 1/2" OTK steering kit from Iron Rock Off Road (https://www.ironrockoffroad.com/prod...ng-xjtjzj.html),
and today I double-checked the alignment and went for a longer test drive.
I also accidentally left the dome light on while I was doing the steering install and killed my battery. I charged it overnight, but it still failed to start, so I bought & installed a new battery today.
I have a 3" lift on my XJ that the PO installed, and although the Iron Rock steering kit says it fit 3-8" of lift, it BARELY fit on my XJ. The instructions said to leave 1/2" to 5/8" of thread sticking out on the heim joint on the axle end of the drag link, but I had to cram both heims and the steering wheel adjuster all the way into the threads to shorten the drag link as much as possible to get it to fit onto the pitman arm, and my steering wheel is still canted about 30 degrees. Doesn't really bother me though, because I have plans to go up to a 6" lift, and then I'll be able to get the wheel straightened out. Other than that, I really like the new setup. My steering is buttery smooth with zero dead space.

Not mine, but I replaced the throw out bearing on a buddy's Jeep from work. The broken one was plastic, but the new replacements are metal at least.

It finally happened. The beater motor blew. Honestly it lasted longer than I expected. After I swap it, I'll tear it down and see exactly what happened.

I need to go out and adjust my drum brakes also. If I keep putting this off it'll make my disc brakes in the front work harder to compensate, and I KNOW this but, kinda lazy today.
Happy New Year everyone!

Changed the oil, plugs, burnt out fog light switch bulb, and replaced the 4wd switch (didn't fix the no 4wd light on the dash). Removed the old hood light, installed some cheap LED lights, and a switch.
