I ended up buying the one from the link you provided I believe, thank you sir. I have yet to take pics but the old one was pretty funky and bulging like crazy. The "new" unit from Ebay was in great shape but the hole was a little bigger so I ended using some long slivers of rubber mulch (so basically recycled tires) to help snug it up better. The end result was no more annoying noise on startup as it is no longer contacting the cross member.
I am definitely going to need more details on this. LOL.

So you did not use an support pieces behind the hatch or the bumper?

Did you trim the back of the bumper cap or is the tire carrier just on top of it?
ok, so I literally broke off all of the bolts. They were really rusted. I took EVERYTHING from the jeep and here's what I ended up usiit. I used 3/8 bolts for everything. I popped off all if the welded nuts with an air hammer and it was really easy to do. Took 5 minutes, or less.
#16, #12, #1, #2.
#2, I cut down right below the latch all the way across, and I actually used the scrap off of that to brace inside the hatch. Just cut a slice out of that. You will have to cut your end cap to make #16 fit, basically cut a general idea (small) and keep cutting until it's how you like it. It's a PITA to put the cap back on after carrier.
to align #16, take the cap off and leave your bumper on. Take #1 off of #16. The pivot pin should nearly center the tail light and the edge align with the end of the now bare bumper. Hint, your 18mm bumper bolt will align with the first hole on the bracket. May not go in but notch it out and make that bolt pinch the bracket.
you really need #12 or make something similar. I can measure that part if you need to make something.
all in all, its surprising sturdy. Again, I didn't use their bracing because, well ours is metal, theirs was fiberglass and I wasn't about to figure that out.

I like my tail light guards and was unsure if they would clear with the tire carrier.
Looking at yours thinking not a problem.
Then there is my '98 Grand Cherokee 5.9 tire cover. I really like it and obviously with the carrier it is no longer used.

I went this route because I am about to go 245's, and will need a small spacer on this actually. Ordered another set of center caps and wheel locks bc I am **** as hell about matching lugs and center caps.
now I need to get it together and lock down funds for those flaps that the other fellow posted.

I had to do the same when I put the brush guard on the front of mine. I had some old front bumper caps so I used them to measure, cut, and test fit.
Then I cut my good ones while off the Jeep.
But still required a slight trim here and there on the fly so........

Write ups are always a good thing.
I like when people do something, explain it in detail, give you the exact part numbers, sizes, links, etc to what they used.
And let us not forget pictures. Very important IMO.
Not the being able to visualize type. Better with show me. LOL.
The only reason I bought mine was because it was there.
Thinking maybe I have seen 2 on Jeeps over the years around here. Never see them in the boneyards around here.
Usually $200 for them when they do come up. On Ebay and Craigslist. Never local and that is with peices missing.
Mine showed up on Craigslist for $100 literally 5 minutes from home.
I jumped right on that when I saw not even sure if I was going to use it or not.
But I figured I would probably never see one again. LOL.
So I was experiencing the high idle again so I took the throttle body apart and gave it and all the connections a good cleaning. Seems some idiot who last did this slathered an inordinate amount of black RTV all over everything, and it migrated inside the TPS and was interfering with it's operation.
Hi, it's me. I'm the idiot. Lesson learned? Don't do that.
side note: I am continually floored by how tight the tolerances are with this engine. Seems the slightest bit of carbon build up makes the idle go rough on my rig. I end up doing this about every 3 months.
