Replaced all the wires going to the hatch through the boot today. A bunch of 18ga and a few 14ga. Took about 3 hours. Just did one wire at a time.
There was just barely enough slack to pull back to make the repairs, then pulled back through so the new wires were in the boot, and the solder connections were not bent or stressed. I used about 10” of wire on each.
I was doing good taking pics until I got to the end and forgot about it until I was all done 😆

That's not a repair I'm looking forward to.

Nice work on the hatch wiring! I had to fix mine a few months back - what a PITA. Did you just cram and tuck the new wiring up behind the upper hatch panel?

Thank you! Just took a couple more pics…

Vehicle side under the upper panel.

Hatch side taken from brake light

Also, I did not wrap the wires the whole way, so they could flex/bend individually inside the boot.

Default Death to the SKIM !!

Wranglerfix has ended my nightmare concerning the security system not finding my key. They deleted the skim from my computer, and after getting it back in just a few days the fear of it not being able to be driven is gone. For less than $100 my Cherokee finally runs every time.

Started it and drove it around the complex for the first time in four months. I just had the battery disconnected during that time - it started right up as if it had been driving around all week!

I've got a lot of interior work to do though... ugh.

I did a lot of work in the past couple weeks. As of today I have had my 99xj for a year. I have patched some small holes in the floor, replaced the muffler and tailpipe, replaced the valve cover gasket, replaced interior bulbs, new headlights, painted and installed a new grill, replaced the entire plastic front end, working on new brake lines, replaced the rear drivers taillight cover, put in new speakers all around and a new center console cover. Upcoming new tires, alternator, some more minor patches.

Normal oil change today.... doing my "happy dance" I got approval from the wife to fix the few things the XJ needs...
That's a win for me as she doesn't see my old XJ like I do... she doesn't get the "It's a Jeep thing... if I have to explain it, you wouldn't understand" kinda deal... to her it's just an old Jeep.
But I've had it years before I met her... so it stays.
I've been able to point out that every time her vehicle (a pretty new Toyota) has had an issue... it's always been my 25 year old XJ to the rescue... so that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside for the ole girl

My jeep usually just sits. We only have liability on it in terms of insurance. So it doesn't cost much at all to have. I need to drive it more though. But when I drive it I'm reminded of all the stuff I want to upgrade lol
install aftermarket Steering wheel
update the steering
figure out how to wire in the new overhead console I put in(I did get the wiring harness from ebay)
replace diff fluids...etc lol
