Well, someone is going to get a good deal on a really nice XJ. I'm over it. I got everything put back together, it was warming up nicely when I saw antifreeze dripping out below the bumper on the passenger side. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from and kept looking for it.

I found it; coming out of the drain pipe on the firewall. When I looked inside the cabin, yes, there was antifreeze dripping on my carpet. I should have followed my gut when it told me to test the heater core first, but I looked it over closely and it looked good, so I put it in.

I'm not doing it again.

What do I need to bypass the heater core?

They bolt up to an AX15 just fine but they're physically larger than a NP231, have different yoke types, slightly different shifter arrangements, and different wiring connectors for speedo and shift light. There will be some slight messaging, grinding, and rewiring, and lots of measuring and calls to my local driveshaft shop, but it shouldn't be rocket science to figure out... knock on wood...

Replaced battery this weekend.

Looks like the el cheapo Group 58 winner was Walmart, and they had a 2 year warranty. But it's not a sealed one, so picked up a can of battery cleaner too. Walmart has the best price on that too.

Just unplug the hoses from the heatercore on the firewall and join them together to make the loop.

I have walmart batteries in a few of my vehicles. The best part is that if you need to replace it while on the road, any walmart can honor the warranty.

Did that. Won't be able to drive it much in these parts though. I'm going to do some math in the coming days and the counting of my pennies to see if I can afford to buy something better. This Jeep was supposed to be my toy. I figured I would use it in retirement to meet the other old guys at the coffee shop. My wife would have the good car and I a truck.

Well, I just got terminated from my job and of course they took my company car. I was saving to buy a truck when I retired and turned in the company car but now I am forced to daily drive the Jeep. Not working out so good, lol.

Yes. NAPA has a 5/8" X 3/4" connector so I just used it to create a loop.

I finally fixed one of two of the quarter vent latches, I used 60A hardness 1mm silicone sheet and cut some washers out. Removed the old paper gasket washers and reinstalled the handle. I'm still waiting for the nut to arrive for the other side, but at least one side closes securely again and tight enough not to leak.

Fuel filler tube shroud sealed in place. Hitch back on. New rear shocks on. Seat mounts trimmed to fit and backsides painted. Seat feet, fuel neck, and lower filler tube cover cleaned up and painted. New tank, straps, and pump/sender almost ready to go in.

All summer been fabbing and replacing rusted uniframe, side rail, and most of the floor. Taking advantage of any dry daylight I can (when I don’t have to work) to get it driveable by winter.
