What did you do to your Cherokee today?

I picked a bad day to have the windshield pulled out so I can clean up the frame.

If there is anything I enjoy about living in Colorado is that after we get 18+" of snow it is in the 60's with clear skies for the next week or so. I'm gonna miss that when I move again...
Today I finally got rid of a ticking sound. I was sure it was the donut ring gasket but then I realized that it was only noticeable when accelerating and it had a delay to it. Therefore it was coming from one cylinder. I installed the $100 one from RockAuto and it sounds great now. Two hour job.

Heard a "POP" from under the hood last week, followed by a pretty horrible noise. (towed it home)
Today I drained the oil and saw some shimmer........pulled the pan and found a few metal flecks
Does that look bad?
How about this?
well.....forced into a rebuild I guess

Are you going to rebuild it? If so, what materials will you use to know how to rebuild it? I've been wanting to build stroker but no clue where to go to get all of the detailed information on how to actually rebuild a motor.

You gotta be really unlucky for that to happen to a Jeep 4.0
Unless you're going the stroker (or low compression supercharger) route, I'd suggest just chucking in another engine's the way to go.

Today I tackled the flimsy, hard plastic vacuum line that actuates the AC vents in my rig. At first, the plan was to rip out the entire dash to get to the top of the heater core box--where the line was the most brittle--and just replace it. But once I started removing the 150 bolts and screws in the way of that, I decided to go another route.
I ended up drilling a 1" hole through the floor pan and just running a new line from the junction behind the glove box to the "T" near the heater core in/out. The hardest part of the entire exercise was finding 1/8" ID vacuum tubing and the connections to seal them up. I find it hard to believe that that TINY bit of vacuum is enough to stop the dreaded "default to defrost" but I guess I have to, because that fixed it.
Also got a tranny fluid change and spin off filter replaced, which is the first time I've had that off in a year since the rebuild. Since it has only been 10 or 12K miles, it didn't really need to be done but I was there and had the time.
Everything is running great, A/C blows cold in my face, and life is good. Jeep on!

Unfortunately, I'm not 100% sure, but it's a good bet it was low oil pressure. I just bought it and knew it had issues, but the engine sounded okay. It's not a huge deal, I ordered new pistons, rods, bearings, the whole shebang. I'm going to do a rebuild. Was planning on it, but wasn't planning on it so soon!
I'm just going with stock parts since I'm planning on an LS swap next year.

It's a 2.5, and I'm just going to do a rebuild with minimal investment until I LS swap it

Whoops, not paying attention Keep forgetting that 2.5's weren't just an export option. Still unlucky though, they may not enjoy the $.0's legendary reputation But I've never know it be suggested that the smaller engine is inherently weak. Still reckon another engine's the cheaper option 0 if you can find one, of course.
New shoes this weekend
Well, I had to replace my KO2s this weekend. One of them decided to fall apart on the way to work. Luckily I had just gotten off the freeway. I can’t imagine having that happen at 70mph.

Got these Made-in-USA Dextero DAT1's from Wallyworld yesterday. $80/ea + 18 install + tax
I just went with some Firestone Destination XTs for now. About $1400 for all five, and they feel really good on the highway. A smoother ride than the KO2s and a lot cheaper.
