The grey one doesn't look half bad, and the GC turbo diesel sounds pretty sweet. But I still like my 98.

call me old school but i want something that i don't mind denting up and scratching with some off-road capability and easy to mantain. The trailhawk seems pretty cool but if i had one i dont think i would be taking it any where near the lake i live by.

I went to the local Jeep dealership recently to check out the new Cherokees and Grands. I would have to say i would be leaning towards buying a new Grand Cherokee over the new Cherokees. I just can't get over the headlights on the new Cherokees. They also didn't have any Trailhawks on the lot for comparision either.

I'm going to try and get inside one soon. Local place has a Trailhawk out front that wants me to look it over.
The back seat looks roomy, and if its anything like the '12 Compass i once rented it should have a comfy interior...
which is my issue with it. The Cherokee is weighed down with all kinds of creature comforts and air bags. Granted some of them are because Big Brother thinks we need a personal bounce house, but i built a Patriot online and it had more attractive offroad features, and less unwanted ones like fancy touch navigation, all for a lower price.
But i havent driven one, so who knows. maybe its magical if you drive it.

I was reading an article on yahoo or msn just a few days ago about 10 cars that the manufacturer ruined.
The Cherokee was prominently featured and the main complaint on the new one was the headlights. I noticed their stock XJ picture was right hand drive as well.

Yes, and it is based on the same platform as the Dart with transverse-mount FWD or FWD biased AWD.
The "Trail-Hawk" ($30k+) is reasonably capable off-road (probably about equivalent to a stock XJ with A/T tires on it, maybe a little better) but is limited as to how it can be modified (at least in a cost-effective DIY manner).
The other models may have a little more capability than the average small/mid-sized cross-over but I wouldn't attempt to take them on a trail or even a rough/heavily rutted logging or fire road, as they have limited ground-clearance (especially ground to body) and a bunch of low-hanging plastic cladding, wiring, hoses, etc. to be damaged.
