I'll repeat a few but:
1. Able to select all 4 gears on AW4
2. SYE
3. 97+ Rear bumper tire carrier
4. 2" higher suspension with 30" tires on 4X4
5. Bigger wheel openings
6. 4 wheel disc
7. Better cooling system
8. 00-01 no precats except on Cali models only
9. High pinion Dana 30 with 30 spline shafts on 4x4 models
10. OTK Crossover steering
All this would solve a bunch of headaches and provide a much better platform to work from.

I wish the XJ's had an optional removable top behind the rear seat, kind of like an Isuzu rodeo, with a factory roll bar. Offer a drop top, a removable hard top, and also offer fixed tops like we all have now.
I also wish they came with fuel pump access plates/hatches in the cargo area. Dropping tanks sucks.
A steel dash that didn't rattle.
That little cubby hole in the rear of the 97-ups should have had a cover/door/net, for F's sake.
Tow hooks and skid plates should have came standard on EVERY 4x4.
And lastly, a Crank sensor that didn't take an act of God to reach.

All great ideas
My first thought without hesitation was "A Frame"....but..
As I pondered it some I wish they came with G80 lockers on both axles.
Not everyone with a Cherokee is going crawling and more of us than will admit don't "wheel" like we wish we could.
I've talked to truck guys and survival folks and mechanics in general and very few of them know that most 4 wheel drive vehicles are not 4 wheel drive.
Without lockers (including inside the transfer case) what you have at best is a two wheel drive vehicle.
G80 lockers are so well engineered for those of us who want 4 wheel drive for milder use (crazy wheeling requires completely different equipment).
They lock automatically without a fuss if the wheels are turning at different speeds in excess of 100 RPM. and at speeds over about 20 mph they won't work.
A perfect light locker....... Should have been on every jeep made !

Sorry but g80 lockers suck for even mild offroading. Have a friend that broke a g80 in a suburban, I also broke the gears on one in an s10. And that was a stock every day driver.
