What the flip is going on here???
Is it just me or my general location?..... this is IS and is NOT an oil thread all in one.
I've had to be on the hunt literally here to find the specific oil that I run in my XJ.... (Rotella T6 5w-40)
And I literally can't find it anywhere in stock and not even online.... Is there some kind of weird demand/issue going on that I'm unaware of?
I know the country and the world in general is pretty jacked up at the moment... but not finding something that even 3 months ago was on every shelf...
So am I smoking crack or is there an issue?..... then... does anyone know where I can get my mitts on a couple gallons to cover this oil change and the next one?
Thanks!

Yeap!
I could not find Lucas power steering fluid for a while either.
If you have a truck stop somewhere around you look in there for the Rotella.
If you were closer I would give ya one of my gallons of T6, as I bought DRIVEN Break-In oil for the new engine.

Thanks my fellow jeep brother....
I've always ran the T6 in mine since she joined the family 5 years ago.... personal choice and I'll leave it at that.
End of that conversation... I don't want to get feathers rubbed the wrong way here....as regular oil topic threads seem to end up in a peeing contest around here.. lol...
I heard they were changing the formula a bit for 2022... dont know if that's true or not... maybe that's why there's a gap in the product avail.... sold the old stuff out and will start replacement product... I hope so... I'll be bummed if they dont.

I never considered myself a hoarder.
But who knew that me keep things in "stock" cause I hate running out of things would ever pay off.
I just use Napa conventional oil, 5W30 or 10W30 depending on the time of year, and the Napa Gold 1085 filters.
I would have to look but probably have enough oil and filters in "stock" for 4 oil changes. LOL.

It's easy when you use the same stuff all the time to keep things in "stock".
This kinda goes against my "not a hoarder" statement.
So the big 20 roll 1000 sheet scratchy toilet paper that I buy goes on sale at my local IGA for $8.
I am down to about 6 rolls so figure it is time to reup.
Sometime later, a month, 2 or 3, who knows for sure, later it goes on sale again.
Now I totally forgot that I bought some already and bought it again.
Get home, go to put it away, and see the other package I bought previously.
Whatever. LOL.
Short time later Covid first hit.
I swear that I did forget about the first package I bought. MLOL.

I'm down to 2 or 3 1085 filters.
ALL my cars use that filter. 2 Jeeps and 2 Alfa Romeos.
Just bought 2 gallons of Valvoline racing oil for the Alfas. Need to stock up on oil for the Jeeps.
Needed some 5/16 fuel line and 3/8 fuel line for a project car so I went to NAPA and bought 15' of each......

Any Gold filter, oil, air, cabin air, fuel, etc, was less then 1/2 price.
Retail during the sale they cost less then what the owner of the store paid for them wholesale.
If I wanted the sale price I had to buy them as a regular customer and not under our Employee Account. LOL.
So if they ever run this sale again that is the time to stock up.

MP stands for Master Pack and basically means there is no box. Same exact filter.
I am sure the savings are small but.....
My guess is they are individually wrapped but not sure about that.
Also if they do exist and we sell them at my store you would not have to buy a case of 12 at my store.
We would sell you however many you wanted.
If we don't stock it they might tell you that you have to buy the case of 12 though.

Anyone have any insight on an additive that can be found and used in the meantime?
I don't want to start anything here... I know a good while back an oil discussion got pretty heated between several people and I think we lost a good jeep resource in the process.
I simply use the T6 for the extra zinc for the ole girl..... also I no longer live in a part of the country where I have to be concerned about what weight to use depending on time of year. Winters are pretty mild here in southern TX.
Like some of y'all I too keep extra on hand for future maintenance for all our vehicles....I was just running a bit low on the T6 from last time. I never dreamed that I wouldn't be able to find that on the shelf. or at least order ahead of time online. but I mean literally NOWHERE has that specific oil. And I really need to change it in the XJ. So I was thinking a good quality synth like the T6 and run a zinc additive if I can find one. Anyone know of one?
I'm really hoping the shortage of what I normally run is over by the next oil change. And if I find a case of the T6 anywhere I'm going to hoard as much as I can get my mitts on. lol

General oil question for our 4.0s...
Mine's a 99 with the 4.0L 6 and the AW4 trans.
I was looking at my original owner's manual... yep... have the orig. one that came with the jeep 23 years ago.
My general question now is regarding the viscosity.
So...would 10W-30 be better for temp environments say above 32 degrees F outside air?
And a 5W-30,40 for ambient air temps of at or below 32 degrees F ?
I don't want to be using one that's too thin for my new environment in southern TX... that would do more harm than good. But also want to protect the cam too.
So if I am forced to make the switch at least temporarily.... T6 is a full synthetic. I've heard that once you go full synthetic in an engine it's best to stick with full synthetic and not go with conventional. Something to do with what it does to the seals. Anyone know if there's any truth one way or the other on that?
