What is my Cherokee worth?

What is my Cherokee worth?
I have a 1988 Jeep Cherokee, Olympic Edition. White. A/C. 5-speed manual. 4 wheel drive. Original 89k miles. 4.0L. No modifications. No serious accidents (the rear hatch was replaced after reversing into a pole but that's it). Paint is good. Always garaged. The thing was driven on occasion by my elderly parents. No dents. Almost no scratches. It has been sitting for about three months. Tan interior (mostly fabric with some vinyl) has no tears. The headliner has a couple of small tears but otherwise the interior looks great. Original owner. It even has those original silly gold pinstripes.
I have tried to figure out what it is worth but have seen asking prices from $1000 to $8000. So, I have no idea and figured I would turn to the experts on this forum.

Here are some pictures.
Here is a link to some pictures. My neighbor wants to buy it. Any thoughts on what this Jeep is worth? (Pictures are also uploaded onto this Flickr link)

Search craigslist and other local sites. KBB and the like won't even go back that far in age often, and its literally what somebody is willing to pay you. That looks clean, and all original, so its worth a lot more than one that's been chopped up poorly with crap mods. I would say close to the 4-5k mark if you were in AZ. not sure what its worth there in cali, but some searching will do you good.

Thank you both. Good guidance.
The range of prices is extreme. Using the oldest year for each of the big three valuation website puts the range between $2000 and $6500.
On Autotrader similar ones are asking $3k to $8k. Two most similar recent eBay sales were one for $2260 and the other for $7100.
I suppose I will just start with a mid point.
Thanks again.

The other question is, what is it worth to you? I had a saab 9-5 aero wagon, KBB was just under $7k for it. I felt it was worth more as it was the only one for sale at the time in the western part of the US. listed it for $10k, and got it, BUT I had to wait a while to find the right person.

You could get every bit of $4k for it around here, maybe a bit more if you find the right buyer. I guess it would also depend on your relationship with your neighbor. Don't want to ding him too much if you have a good neighbor.

It looks as nice or nicer than mine that I just paid $3500 for.
Tell your neighbor $5K and see if he blinks. You can always come down if you really want to sell it.
