Hello guys, I'm new to this forum and just got my first jeep! It's a 2001 and I don't know what I should do first. First think I was thinking about putting a lift (maybe a 3 inch) but I don't know what kind to get. Any suggestions on mods and what not?

Wheel it stock for a while and get to know the Jeep, then worry about a lift. You get what you pay for with lifts. Pay more and have no complaints, take the cheap route then **** and moan about it.

No body lifts on a Cherokee. There is no frame to lift the body off of. You will need to look at suspension lifts.

Wheel it stock, trim the fenders and run a set of good 31" tires, remove the rear sway bar and disco or remove the front if you want it to be a decent wheeling rig.

Okay, I was looking at fender flares online, will the fit the trimmed fenders?

Most aftermarket fender flares want the jeep uncut and you cut where they say too.Cutout style fender flares will give you more room then the flat fender style does.

Did you just buy it? If so, give a tune up even if it doesn't feel like it needs one. This way, you know the ins-and-outs of your Jeep, where it is at mechanically, and you'll start to build a relationship with it as it will do something weird at some point in time because, it is an XJ.

Also, +1 for wheeling it stock for a while. Then, I'd say get some grippier tires. A lift is nothing without proper traction.

So if I put a 2" lift can I leave it uncut?

Wheel it as is. It took me one trip on a moderate trail to find out what I wanted to upgrade.

Yeah, I was thinking that. I was just about to take it on a couple trails down the road from my house, but the radiator decided to act up, so I don't wanna risk it. Should be good in the next couple of days though.
