What size lift??
I got this 96 2door xj and I was wondering what size lift I should get. I have seen many lifts and they all look different. I was thinking about getting a 4inch lift and 33. Is that a good size to start with??or should I go 6inch with 35s?

if you plan on doing a substantial amount of wheeling....i would go for a long arm kit out of the gate.
if not, a normal lift
if not, a normal lift

thats a big difference from a 4 to a 6" lift. for a long arm kit for 4.5" of lift your looking at least $1300+ and for a 6" long arm your looking at $1500+ for a good kit. plus a sye will be needed along with a new rear driveshaft. with a 4.5" 32s will clear no problem and for 33s you may have to do minor fender trimming and for 6" 34s would be an ideal size with 35s may require some minor trimming aswell. and dont forget once you start running 33s+ your going to have to regear aswell and strengthen up the axles a little if you dont plan on changing them out. just some stuff to think about

Depends how much wheeling you plan to do, and how much on road driving. If you intend to to a lot of wheeling and you have a larger budget, I would definitely go with the long arm. The long arm on my Cherokee drives great on road (MUCH better than a short arm) and does great offroad too. But if you have a lower budget and just are going more for looks than performance, a smaller lift would work better

Yeah I was thinking about the long arm kit, but I can't get the lift till end of summer when I get more money. I'm just planning ahead. And if I do decide to get a 4.5inch lift with 33s can I go the same places as my brother that has a 4runner with 35s and 4inch lift??
By the way thanks for the help

Most likely, if not more places than him. 35's are a huge tire to put on only 4.5" of lift. With the 33's you would have a lot more flex room.

Yeah he is locked in the rear. But will I go most of the places if I got 33s and locked my rear? And can I lock my front (I have a Dana 30) without it breaking easy. Or just a limited slip?

long arms 33s sitting around 3-4 inches with lockers and cut fenders is a great wheeling platform. you wont brake parts as often, and still streetable. you dont need 6 inches of lift to clear 35s. big lifts = top heavy rigs keep it LOW
