When I was looking for a cherokee i found a guy that had ex fleet xjs that had between 500000 to 675000 all highway miles. They were professonally maintained and i have no idea if they were orinigal engines or not but they all ran great

My mothers 98 has 250k and she does not keep up with her maint. (Poor 4.0). I did not expect it to go this far. It only gets an oil change once a year when I go home for christmas. I've begged and pleaded with her to get it done but you know how women can be about such things. On another note mine is still a factory fresh 123k motor that is smooth as a kitten.

My '87 went to 252 and some change(miles) on original motor until it threw a rod through the block. I saw one someone posted on here from another site, may have been cardomain, that had over 600k miles on it as of February all original.

My 89 Peep has 514000+ km (318 miles). Leaks but doesn't burn the oil. New oil and filter every 6000 km for the last 22 years. She's gettin some structural lovin, coming out of the sick bay in couple days and then we're heading for 600 and beyond. Keep you lube in good shape. Don't overheat, and don't get rammy with the rpm when bogged. That 4.0L will go and go.

Hi all,
just updating that my cherokee has just passed 284,000 miles. i see by other posts that's it's still a baby, although the body isn't holding up that well. the floor is almost gone, the only thing holding up the carpet is rust and some aluminum diamond plate i had to put over the muffler. so i guess i better get some sheet metal and fix the floor cause i don't want to get rid of jeep yet. i saw a post about floor pans so i may surf around and see if that'll be an option.
be safe and keep it on the road(or off)!

425,000 miles, it was a base model 4x4 4 door 1996 Cherokee that didn't even have delay wipers. It was still pretty clean as the owner had sprayed oil all over the underside, doors, engine bay, etc. It was part of the flock of XJs that came into my yard for cash for clunkers. The only thing that stopped that 4.0 was the sodium cylicate.
