on my 91 i had a no name stainlesss muffler, it was a straight thru design...with baffles..but you could see right thru it

anyway, with no cat on my jeep, that thing sounded like a mini 24v cummins...miss that jeep

the black 2000 that i had was a dynomax, never liked it, never hated it..it was just there

my 99 i have has a vx series by apex exhaust....im torn, when the muffler is warmed up it sounds decent at best...when its cold it sounds like a clogged up flowmaster....dont know if i will keep it....and what to replace it with

but for now, i just leave it. Its not great sounding, but its not horrible either...i gotta find that no name muffler i had on my 2000....

Stock plated with 1/8" steel. Doesnt get destroyed on rocks, and is nice and quiet. I dont need to attract anymore attention than i already have.

I like Magnaflow. I bought a magnaflow catalytic converter from cwik. they have a 5% off coupon, free shipping and no sales tax. Best price I could find from a real dealer.

Depends on the vehicle and whether I'm going for mpg, flow, sound, ect.

In general I like Thrush mufflers and Magnaflow exhausts.

My XJ has a certain rule hollowed out and a resonator muffler off a 2012 STI and it's the best sounding 4.0 exhaust I've heard. It sounds good but it's not too loud. Only complaint is uphill is drones really low and bad, but it takes real uphill and I think once I regear it will change. I can run on the highway and you can barely hear it but it's real loud and throaty when I accelerate hard.

magnaflow or spintech sound best IMHO. i run a 2.25 in/out flowmaster 50 and am very happy with it. just a bit louder than stock, and a bit louder than my dynomax was on my old jeep. i was not a fan of how the dynomax ripped open like a soup can in the rocks... the flowmaster is way beefier.

Ive thought about doing a super 44, but the jeep I bought yesterday has a nice sounding cherry bomb on it. though I prefer stock.

I loved running an open header. Did it for a while after my head swap but it just drew too much attention. If my XJ was a trailer queen I'd definitely run an open header, legal or not.

edit: and for an open header, the 4.0 isn't that loud and doesn't drone, but it is loud enough to attract police attention

Spintech makes the best sounding mufflers.

Flowmaster. I think I have a Flowmaster Super 44 Offroad or something like that. It's black diamond plate, had it get it off eBay since it was discontinued.

Your full of **** a catback will not give you 5mpg. I've had full exhaust on several vehicles and ever seen more then 2-3 mpg.
