What's your MPG?

Easy on the name calling buddy. I know you weren't saying it to anyone on here that but it could still offend someone.
To the original question. When I first got my XJ I was getting 19-20mpg.. Lately though it has gotten worse. I believe a tune up will fix the problem as I have not replaced the plugs/wires and filters (except oil) since I have owned it (2yrs).

91 XJ Sport with 4.0 HO (Cold Air Intake/2.5" exhaust), AW4, 4.56 gears and 32" tires. I was getting 22 mpg at 70 mph or 18 mpg at 80 mph on the highway and about 16 mpg city no matter what. that is I WAS.......just installed a front locker and...well...I'm getting about 17 on the highway, now. My message is this. For my set up I was doing great on gas. If you are thinking of installing that front locker, make sure you've decided it's worth taking it in the shorts at the pump for often. I've already decided it is WAAAAAAAAAAAY worth....each time I take it off road.

99 XJ 5 spd 3.07's 30x9.50's
around town I usually get between 15-17, on the highway goin thru mountains I get around 21-22. if I am goin on road trips on flat ground where I can set the cruise (I LOVE CRUISE CONTROL) I get 22-24, and I have gotten 25 mpg on a few occasions. and yes my speedo is correct with the 30's on it.
as for the guy braggin about MUSTANG gas mileage. you cant compare the 2 its just not a true comparison. you have a pretty decently aerodynamic small car that weighs probably 2500 lbs, sits low to the ground and most of the air around it goes over the smooth body, even with a V8 its still gonna get decent mpg.
then on the other hand you have the XJ. its a box!!!! its a bunch of flat panels trying to push its way through the air. it sits 12" off the ground at stock height it has its front axle out there in the wind having to cut funky shaped holes through the air, and once the air gets past the front axle its not exactly a smooth flowing undercarriage. and if your a 4x4 with a non-disco front axle you also have the added drag of ALL the front diff components spinning and its associated drag. add to that you have what is essentially a tractor motor under the hood that has been modified to make it as efficient as possible.
all things considered the XJ is a pretty decent performing 4 wheel drive SUV when it comes to MPG. how many other truly capable REAL 4X4's oput there can get 20+ mpg on the highway. there arent many. look at it this way, if you think the XJ mileage is bad you should drive a wrangler. typically they get a good 3-5 mpg WORSE than a similarly equipped XJ
if you took the engine and trans out of your mustang and put it in an XJ with now changes at all and geared the XJ with 2.73 gears I doubt it would get 26 mpg.

I have no clue, I am on the "first full tank" in my cherokee. I haven't put a full tank into it since I bought it....hahaha. I do know its not great compared to my Datsun, and my Datsun is still faster but it does have a built 2.2L to be fair.
Maybe 200 miles to the tank if I'm lucky.....who knows if the odometer is correct with the larger tires. Does this sound about right? It has 33's. I don't know the gear ratio yet.

I bet that guys XJ would be so damn fun with that Mustang motor in it, I wouldn't care what mpg it got. I'd have that right pedal on the floor all the time.

99' Sport on 33-12.50's I get about 8 city and 11-12 highway. I have a full size spare , solid steel bumper, and full toolbox though. My stock WJ gets about 18/23.
