doing a 6x6 wouldnt use a seperate drive to each axle the axles are tied together with a box attached to the axle i dont see any way to run a seperate drive line to each axle as it seemed you were wanting to do

here is a video of the T-Rex that shows the drive line real well

as far as adding to it and making it longer its a uni-body so thats no easy task
your best bet would be the push the rear axle back as far as you can and then push the wheel well forward mounting the front/rear axle just behind the rear seat however you would have to measure and make sure that it gives enough room for the tire size you want to run

also check on local registration laws i know awhile back on a different forum that some places say if you have over 40" between axle you have to have "load shareing" which changes the suspension i guess which cause problems as the rear most axle does more work when off road

is it possible? very
cheap? no
summer built? only if you have tons of money and an crew lol

your probably looking at almost 10k or better in just the drive line then add shocks, springs, material to fab the extra mounting areas

anyway not tring to bring you down or discourage you in anyway there seems to be enough of that in the thread as is
just saying do your home work and be prepared for a long road

Sounds like a fun ride. Too bad people that do projects like this don't seem to live near me. I've been a fabricator / welder for 25 yrs and I'd love to help out on a cool project. Always thought if I had a cutting torch and welder, I could build anything.
Good luck, post up picks

thanks for the posts guys.

for those of you who don't know i machine weld and fabricate for a living always have. so what may take one guy a while to figure out i can do in my head. once i have the parts in front of me then draw it up and get to it. i plan to spend on this xj til i get it how i want it to be just like the rest of you fit yours how you want / can afford too.

lets not crap talk. think of how dumb the first guy sounded when he was like: dude im gonna take this here steam powered car with wood wheels thru that there muddy spot its gonna be a blast .

then ten guys said no don't, you'll get stuck it will suck and your crazy. the one guy that jumped in with him and said: bro i'm in it till your out the other side. that was a man! the other ten should have shut there mouth's and gone inside with the women to make those two gents dinner.

then those two gents went all out having fun trying new $hit on there rigs to go more places while every one watched. then once the proved it called it wheeling and got i all rite, then every one of those nay sayers joined on in.
story & point hope ya enjoyed that Mr. Box.

any how i gotta run again. i will get to some of the posted links and vid. to nite.

I'm gonna go ahead and call this one.

It wont be done by summer, and I have a feeling it will end up as another unfinished project.

No offense to you, but this is a pretty serious project, fabricator or not.

White one looks photoshopped. Photoshopped well, but still photoshopped. Blue one actually looks pretty legit, only thing i cant wrap my head around is that rear door...

i thought that too but the shadow actually looks pretty legit on the blue one. If they would have just did the rear doors like a normal xj.. i might believe its real.. too bad its not

That's probably what everyone said to the first guy to stuff tons under a cherokee.....I'm sure there were tons of "grocery getter" comments, and what not. It can be done!! But if your going all out..I say independent suspension all around. Pick up some surplus hummer center sections and out board reduction boxes, long arm it..and throw some type 30 cv' s in there.
