Independent suspension ? I'm a big solid axle fan but it may be easier to hook up if the center sections were fixed and just the axles moved. Maybe even use the A arms and torsion spring setup out of a 1/2 ton truck.

Not without a certificate of inspection and maybe even a re-register of the VIN and VIN inspection depending on how many parts from other vehicles you end up using.

You could of course just drive it around until you're caught, but you will be caught, cops aren't that dumb and it will be crushed, if you get in a wreck before that happens, insurance will have a field day.

WA must be really strict, I thought MA was bad. Most cops around hear would stop you just to see what it was. This is a real big cranberry area and you are liable to see anything on the road in picking season.

It depends on where you live, if you drive 30min past my house I bet nobody would care, I doubt a cop would ever see it. In any metropolitan area though, they might not know what it is, but they'll know it's probably illegal and they're going to stop and check.

there are other local 3/4 ton truck that have dual rear axles in them not factory and there being driven around just fine. one i know of is mainly used to haul a 5th wheel trailer and teh other is just for looks and show its slammed minni truck for abbq biz thats local.
i'm sure theres a way to do it. if not i plan to buy a disel and turn it too a flat bed to haul my rig. so as long as it can register ORV i'm happy. but we will see. i am going to to my engine swap first then re work the under caraige. because the engine i plan to use is shorter and i can move it forward in the rig to allow more room to fit my trans and t-cases. then i must stretch. if it fall thru i will just be sad and try to figure out some other crazy idea to do like build a 6x6 buggy for snow with heat wipes and space to sleep.

then i would get to still have my 6x6 and build it and have a rig for snow and my xj could be a rig for trails.

take a year or two and build my own custom rig. now that dose entice me a bit.

any one want to submit ideas for a buggy build ? my idea is a box on wheels basically and leafed sus. make is simple and i can have a basic frame. then rivit sheet meatal to the frame and insulate it with foam , install a nice heater and keep it warm inside. i'd like to run 35's on it. so all my riggs use the same size tires.

Buy a dead van and have at it, it's already got the doors, windows, windshield all the stuff that would be miserable to build. Or find a Army surplus Stryker, 6x6 bullet proof now that's a kick *** camper!
