So every weekend the local 4x4 group made up of mostly jeeps and toyota that im in get together and hit the trails and have some good fun. Well the question got brung up to me and a few other xj guys. Why do you drive a cherokee and not a toyota or wrangler. Here was our answer its all in the names why would you wanna drive some thing with the word TOY in it unless you were a child and who wants to drive something that sounds like you have to fight it (wrangler)

For a couple of reasons...
1) I love Jeeps! I've owned several.
2) Following the theme of loving Jeeps, I love my '02 TJ. Bought it new and it's been great. But... I got engaged to a woman with a 145 pound Brazilian Mastiff, and that big *** dog doesn't fit in the TJ So, I bought my '98 and have been "restoring it", and sadly, the TJ is now up for sale. I don't have room for three cars and a trailer, and I don't want to keep paying $85 a month to insure the TJ when I'm not driving it.
No regrets though! I love the Cherokee. and it's been a blast fixing it up!

I have always thought they looked awesome lifted and built, they are just the right size, and you know that 4.0 straight six will outlast the competition ! Just look at these photos and see what I mean.

I drive a YJ, and an XJ.
Love them both, I use the YJ as a 2 seater to cruise around town with my wife.
The XJ is for hauling the family. Both vehicles do well offroad, & neither has lockers.
I had the YJ for a few years, & then one day i just had to have an XJ.
This video had a little to do with that:
Nice to know it could stand up to that level of abuse, if I ever need to escape from the Zombie Zone.

I have always wanted a Jeep and when the stars were in alignment to move forward, I looked at Wranglers. Realizing it would be a tight fit my 100+ pound Akita, I became discouraged. I then recalled a ride in an old friends XJ in Colorado's back country and how impressed at the tough terrain it handled. With the off-road capability and the extra room it afforded for my dog, it was a no brainer.

Like HudFab said, they are the cheapest most capable backcountry people movers money can buy! And the aftermarket, uh, market... is HUGE for them! (case in point, Hud Fab) LOL

Just bought me a gc with the 5.2 got my buddy hooked to hes had 3 since ive gotten mine and im soon to sell him my xj and build him a nice every day ride/wheeler.

Came from Mustang World of modding (HUGE aftermarket support) and wanted a vehicle that would easily fit my family (two young kids (3yr/1yr). So far I'm loving the XJ. Aftermarket is great and parts are very reasonable from what I've seen so far.
