4500 is more than fair for that Imo. Jeeps like that will only go up in value. I would jump on it before someone else does.

Bought it!!! Had to drive 1 hour in the middle of no-where and offered $4,500. She (woman owner) was not budging until I told he I was going to leave, she accepted and now I am officially a XJ owner. Making an intro thread since I took some pictures before the sun went down.

^^yeah this one was only on CL for 3 days I believe before I bought it

Thanks again for all the advice everyone.

Congrats. Yeah jeeps tend to be a bit overpriced in our areas. I was lucky to get mine at 2600 here in vegas. Seems prices are around 4000 for clean jeeps. The good thing is that at least we rarely have to deal with rust issues.

Very nice low mileage XJ for sure but check it out closely. I like the others think the price is on the high side, one way to find out is call your bank and ask what the "Loan Value" on it is. Then you can that as a bargaining chip for a little more off his price plus find what they are worth in your area, the only true way.

I looked for a while before I found a 99 as that was the year I wanted also. Found it on CL also out of state and he drove 1/2 way to meet me, I wanted to make sure it would drive that far before I drove it and trailered it home.

Be sure to check out the transfer case in 4 H and 4 L and check the transmission fluid for color/smell (burnt odor), engine oil if it is clean and clear looking all points to lower price. You might as well plan on changing the differential fluids as the transfer case. These are items often neglected so ask for the service to see if they have been done.

BTW I paid $1800 for mine but with over 200,000 on it still runs great though.

Congrats on the buy! You're off to a great start, joining and posting here before buying. Now the fun begins...learning about your rig and it's little idiosyncrasies (they will be there, trust me!), getting inspiration from the Build Threads on what you want to do...have fun, and make sure you can afford it!

Wow missed the post that he had bought it wasn't when I posted.

Anyway its a really nice XJ to start with for sure as many of us here found a lot of issues after we bought ours. First thing you want to check is if its an early or late model 99. I would suggest that you get a build sheet for it to see exactly what you have. They are free, easy to get from MoPar online and all you need is the vin number.

CONGRATS AND WELCOME!!

^^^ Did not know about that, I will certainly check it out.

She gave me a bunch of paper work, seems like she did maintenance the vehicle properly. The oil was just changed right before I bought it and so were the brake rotors. I do plan on doing a tune up (sparks, fluids etc...).
I am also not a fan on my side trim (seems like it was re-glued but not all that great) so I will probably remove it.

Alright made an intro thread if anyone wants to see some more pictures of it. I will probably just post more stuff on there now since I bought it. Thanks!

-Valve Cover gasket
-Cooling system (overheating)
-Exhaust Manifold
-Rear shock bolts (common that they break)
-Possible Ring blow-by (remove oil cap while engine is on)

Again these are just come of the things I wrote down from reading on the forums over the last few days. Need to make sure the title is clean/accidents etc.... I will check it out today and keep you guys updated.
Add motor mount bolts to your inspection list. These are the bolts that run through the motor mount brackets and into the block, 3 on each side. The passenger side bolts can vibrate/walk out and then snap. Check those bolts and make sure they are good and tight. If you find any that are loose, it's worth extracting them one at a time, adding red loc-tite, and then putting them back. There should be lots of threads here and on any wrangler forum about the issue (same engine).

Last summer I went wheeling half a dozen times and took a week long camping trip in the middle of nowhere. Came back and decided to get my worn out clutch replaced. Luckily my jeep mechanic always checks for this issue and showed me where 2 of the 3 bolts had broken off in the block, and the 3rd one was barely hanging on. I can't tell you the pit in my stomach I got when I realized how many times I'd dropped off a rock or a ledge and how lucky I was that the last bolt didn't break.
