IMHO it all depends on what you need a p/u for. There are all sorts of configurations offered but it seems a dedicated utility p/u is becoming a thing of the past(think F250 w/4x4 and T-18 type transmission). I kind of inherited a '99 Ram 1500 4x4 w/extended cab,6 1/2' bed, auto trans,l/s rear,391 gears, and 6" lift. If it wasn't for the extended cab and a motor that requires high test gas it would be perfect for me IF I needed it.

It was the 2000 Dakota Quad Cab that switched me over to 4 door pickups forever. The shorter bed was fine for most of the cargo moving I needed to do. But they aren't great for all the chores, so I purchased a utility trailer long ago, added sides, a landscape gate, and now it's all covered.
