I just don't see the point in building to look like something it's not. If that's your thing, so be it. However, I could find something alot nicer than a near 30,000$ Jeep to pimp around and look cool in.

Sorry I'm late to chime in on this topic but I feel the exact same way as OP.

I've got a group of friends that are rather close and we hit the trails pretty hard. The majority of us have rather built "Rigs" (<--- a term that used to mean something). However, just as soon as it rains or we get over 2 inches of snow its like the wheeling world stops an shuts down. I just don't get it either.

I don't care what you paid, what brand (we are a open group of wheelers), stock or built. . . . Just get out there and have fun! Its not like the "rig" isn't capable or lack of driver skill. With the exception of a few guys, our group is well up in the years with experience.

We'll plan for two, sometimes three weeks ahead and get about two days from the ride and if its not sunny and at least 45* ..... I get the " I have something else to do excuse." Its all I hear.... "When we wheeling man? We gotta get out more! When you wanna go?! Lets plan a trip!"

Sorry for my rant as well.... I just don't get it myself.

It doesn't matter what they use it for, all that matters is that they are proud of what they own. That's the whole point of building/customizing vehicles. Honestly, I'd rather look at clean, lifted jeep than one that's all beat to hell and gets "used."

Now when you say "used", how do you mean used. I would tend to agree depending. I mean, just because you have a beat to **** wheeler doesn't mean you wheel more or harder than the next guy. Dragging your wheeler around takes no skill. Now if you were trying to avoid it and it happen, there was no other way to avoid it.... different story. IMO.

I agree with this as well. I see nothing wrong with mods on a vehicle that doesn't get used. Although, if thats your thing..... don't join a 4x4 club, group that goes wheeling and plans trips. If you're the wash and wax with tire shine kind (NOT POINTING FINGERS AT ANYONE). . . the'res car clubs out there for that. As a president of a group... I just hate to bend over backwards for members who always plan but never show. You know the kind.... The ones who want you to appease them and what they want (and you do to please the crowd) but when it comes time... they back out.

Maybe they don't want to chance not making it & not being able to play another day.

My feeling about people that won't wheel in snow nor rain. it kinda irks me because I love a challenge but it sucks going by yourself in case something happens.

Last time my friends did that I said they got no ***** and kept bugging them all morning. Come on you gonna let a little rain stop you?
But I've seen were everything wet made it really difficult trying to get up a steep rock thats right after the mud hole you just went thru to get to it.

Or snow wheeling is one of my favs. Fresh snow actually helped me in some cases.

Now when there's ice out there.. oooohhh boy! even lockers dont help.
But I'd try it anyways.

Dam, you got some sissy wheelers there in VA. Here in WA if people were to back out when it rains we would never go wheeling. I find the heavy rain or snow to be the best stuff to wheel in. Of course my Jeep is pretty built so when it is dry I never have any problems. One of my favorite parts about wheeling is the challenge and with the steep hills around here the snow sure brings it. Any day where the conditions are so bad that I can actually get stuck is a good day to wheel.

I totally agree with this! Now, I understand that if a vehicle is under built for the conditions its in and the driver opts out due to lack of modifications and doesn't want to risk damage to his/her vehicle thats a different story to me. Thats being responsible.

Example :
I can honestly say there have been runs that I just wouldn't take my XJ through. Why? Because its my DD and I want it to continue to be. I love it and bought it for that. Do I plan and plan and tell the group " Yeah man, I'll be there! Count me in." Nope. I just flat out say...."Count me out guys." Then the usual ribbing goes on. But I didn't commit and then back out with a lame excuse.

I must have got caught up in all the other posts, because I didn't remember seeing anything about a club in your original post. So yes, if you're in a 4x4 club and back out of a trip because of a little snow, you're in the club for the wrong reasons.

"Used," meaning a vehicle that gets taken off road regularly, usually resulting in noticeable cosmetic damage.

What aftermarket parts a vehicle has on it shouldn't decide what it gets used for. Plenty of people turbo their cars and don't race. Just because you lift a truck, doesn't mean you have to take it offroad.

So if I own a sport bike I need to do 150+ and crave corners?

If I have a harley I need to drink beer and beat people up?

If I own a Truck I have to haul things?

If I have a four door car I have to have a family?

If I have a sports car I have to race everyone all the time?

I dont get it.

If you like the way a vehicle looks you buy it. If you want it to be lifted with nice tires/bumpers why cant you? Its stupid to not get what you like. I get tired of hearing the constant whining of people about what other people do or have. Didnt your parents teach you not to worry about others?

PS. I understand the club backing out, thats just gay.

Your exactly right about a turbo car setup in your example. So why would one turbo a car? PERFORMANCE. Its not all about a race. (trust me on this one) So whats the point of me putting a turbo on my car and it never seeing boost? To say "Look, I've got a GT35R84!" I doubt that. But on my side of this discussion I will say to each their own. I will never call anyone a Mall Crawler, Poser . . . Whatever. I just have a problem with the attitude of people who have the " I have the end all built "rig"" but never bring it out.

I'm NOT one to argue on internet forums or IRL. Its just not worth it. But I will however say once again that I don't care what people do with their trucks, Jeeps, cars, bikes... If its a look your going for, Idc. Do it up! I will give compliments when due.
