Default Xj door hinge fabrication

just bought a 98 XJ 2 door. The door hinges are all bent in rusted ones missing entirely it looks like the kid before me literally ripped the doors off the hinges. It's on the body side of the hinge so I'm scratching my head on this one. I'm looking for tested ideas on how to fabricate the full door hinge so that I could mount the stock doors on (for winter) and then mount tubular doors that I'll make for summer. Im nervous to just weld a pin barrel hinge to the frame seeing as the 2 door cherokees have pretty heavy doors. Any suggestions or ideas?

The hinges are known for pulling away from the body and breaking off. Some one at jeep thought it was a bright idea to weld them on instead of bolting them on.

The bottom driver's side is definitely in need of replacement...

Get one from a part out or JY...use a cutoff wheel at the welds, and chisel it off. The others are not AS bad, but, you will need to beat them into submission, and re-weld in place. You'll never get them perfect, but you can get close. Use shims to get the gaps set right. Best I got for ya.

Default After one Saturday

Spent 12 hours yesterday on this jeep 😅 took some banging and I used regular washers to space out the doors on the passenger side to get it to close. It’s not perfect but it got her to kind of work. Driver sides a little worse than I thought. I found the bottom hinge, is bolted to the door still. All the screws are stripped in there so I don’t even think another hinge is going to work. I’m gonna try and get fancy with using the factory top hinge and maybe a pin barrel or a piano hinge for the bottom?

I did fix the driver seat though! It was cracked and broken in more places than I thought. Welded her back together And she’s as good as new.

Changed the rear shocks since one was completely missing the passenger side stud broke off when I was removing it. I was at my wits end at that point slid it on and welded a washer and nut to the cracked bolt. Didn’t seem like it was going anywhere. We’ll see ! Lol
