Just my .02

My friend has the Rugged Ridge mats and they look GREAT. I have a set of Husky Liner mats for my front and some cheap generic ones for the rear.

The Husky Liner front mats hold like 2 gallons of water - they work fantastically when we go snow wheeling and my friends refuse to do the wizard of Oz "heel click" to knock the loose snow off their boots
I think I paid about $80 for the front two on Ebay which was worth it to me (expensive for floor matts but also really well built).

You can see how deep they are;

Removing your interior, painting your floor, then putting the interior (sans carpet) back in is easier than plunking some mats in? Cleaning your floors must require more effort than lifting a mat out and shaking debris out of it, too.

I'm not dissing your choices. I'm just not seeing how your was is "way easier."

I have Rugged Ridge liners. I don't know much about Husky liners but I don't like Weathertech because they seem to slide around on the carpet because they have smooth bottoms. Rugged Ridge has little spikes on the bottom so no sliding around!

Agreed. Unless you just don't give a crap and your bedlined interior is a mess. If I had the choice on dropping coin on nice floor mats or bedlining my floor and leaving it without carpet I would go with floor mats

I can see that.

I can also see where getting rid of 20 year old moldy carpet might be worthwhile. Auto carpet has its place. But moldy carpet sucks. Sandy carpet sucks. Depends on how the vehicle is used and how much you like scrubbing/vacuuming carpet. With my rain leaks, I wound up cutting the front floor pan insulation out just to get rid of the mold and mildew.

I would rather have a vinyl floor liner, but such unicorns seem to be rare for any vehicle post 1980. So the bed lining option has some appeal. I would just put mats on top of the bedliner. The lack of thermal and sound deadening insulation is the drawback that I have with a bedliner solution.

Great thing about an XJ project. Pretty easy to customize. But I want a new drivers seat with better lumbar support before I will mess with the carpet.

I had Nifty (yes, that's the brand name) floor mats in my XJ some years ago. They act just like the Husky & Weathertech mats in that they hold lots of water and you just rinse them off. The real difference was that they were first class mats: had carpet on top, waterproof rubber on bottom. Cost about $135 or so for front/rear set. They were awesome, matched my tan interior, looked like stock ... and then someone dear to me decided to get me Weathertech or Husky liners. Of course I had to use the new mats ... but I still have my tan Nifty Catch-All mats in a box. Can't simply throw them away

Yeah, thats the best idea I have seen for a seat. I'd rather have manual adjust. I need to hit a few pic-a-part places for the seats and a rim for a full size spare. Still smarting from the $hock of buying a remanufactured engine.....

What years on the ZJ seats are drop in for a 99 XJ? [Off to google I go.]

All. Plus the WJ. So 93-04 grand cherokee seats will work.

I literally did the swap on Friday. Pull both front seats from an 04. At the time I noticed that the driver seat was possibly not original, but didn't notice until Sunday that it was actually a ZJ driver seat.

Thanks. The parts picking places closest seem to have a good supply of ZJ's. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some that can clean up better than my OE seats.

Not many xj's and zero wranglers listed in the local junkyards. Interesting.
