XJ TDI conversion - GO HERE NOW!!!!
Forum members & lurkers alike....GO HERE NOW!!!
http://www.hpamotorsport.com/tdiconversions.htm
Ive been following HPA motorsports on their TDI conversion, and they know I am VERY interested, but they want to know how many others are interested!!
So they will design & fabricate whats neccesary for the swap in an XJ!!!
I know I wouldnt mind paying the extra .50¢/gal for diesel, when I get an extra 15MPG for it!

Then I can source a TDI elsewhere....I saw a Jetta TDI for around $2600 last month on Craigslist...pretty sure the guy said there was nothing wrong with it, he just needed to sell it, cause he needs a truck for work.

still a lot though...
3700 for the diy kit
about 3500 for a well used (mk4) 1.9 vw motor.
$7200... somewhat reasonable, but more than likely, you still can't justify the mpg and power vs. price.
and is that kit gonna include the ecu flash and the cam to get that 280 ft lb of torque?

I honestly think, this is something for the lifted DD'er as a best option, if you already own your Jeep and youre in it for the long run.
Because I love my Jeep, but I hate its appetite at $3.50/gal and getting like 8-10mpg. So instead of 200miles per tank, Ide get 500miles per tank ...saving me $2,280 per year!
(gas prices in my area presently)
Gas: $3.50/gal x 20 = $70 x 5 = $350 x 12 = $4200
Diesel: $4.00/gal x 20 = $80 x 2 = $160 x 12 = $1920
$4200 - $1920 = $2,280
So if I owned my Jeep another 3 1/2 years, the money I saved on fuel would pay for itself....and then that money can go towards MORE MODS ...or whatever...
Getting the same amount of power, and getting 3x better gas mileage.
Like I said, its better for a DD'er and whoever else is in it with their Jeep for the long haul.
And besides....like buying a tow rig that has a large displacement engine, then a trailer, then having a toy with a large displacement engine is gonna save you money?!?!

well, i guess even a 4bt swap will come to near that much. but i wouldn't expect to get more than 25 mpg out of a 1.9L engine. if you're really easy on it. still could be worth it.
i don't know... so far it's all speculations. guess someone's gonna have to take one for the team and get the kit.

I just wanted other XJ owners to support, the XJ owners that want this....so HPA would actually put in the effort of making it accessible for us.
All you have to say is... YES, I have an XJ and Im very interested! This would be great!
Im also tired of wranglers getting all the good s**t!
