Jeep makes the best offroad vehlciles in the world that were also good on the road as well or well at least use to when it came to there whole line. They've gone more road friendly in recent years as we all know.. Anyways you can't beat the best and the best is Jeep..
Anyone who thinks there whatever is better is seriously lost there mind

im a jeep guy thru and thru, but my bros explorer is sick....i built it.

4.56 gears
arbs front and rear
Atlas II t-case
HUDFAB bumpers
HUDFAB sliders
35s
bunch of other crap.......

i would put it against 90 percent of the xjs on this site......and bet money it would win.

i still call it the sploder

Wow... did you really just try to make an exploder sound durable cuz it made it 127k? Our xj's aren't even broken in yet at that point, lol

I have more customers here that bring me those things than I care to admit. I haven't found anything about them aside from the 8.8 that doesn't remind me of a steaming stool

Only thing not sploder is the t-case, bumpers and suspension.

Still has ttb front suspension.

t-case and suspension are some pretty big factors in how capable a 4x4 is

Your thread would have been great if you had posted after the XJ puts the Ford in its place. Don't come on an XJ forum asking what we think in a comparison between the XJ and any other 4x4. I'm thinking you're probably not quite sure about what the XJ can do if you have to ask for opinions. Posting this thread tells me you need reassurance and you're simply stacking the deck to hear what you want to hear. Ask the question on an unbiased forum (like Chevy. Not Toyota ... they hate us lol). Or better yet, go ask it on a Ford forum. You'll get a different set of opinions for sure.

My point? Do it, prove it to yourself & post pics/video and make your point. Before you do, remember that driver skill is a huge part of the equation.

And as an example of my confidence in my 4x4 of choice, read on:

hudfabxj - I dunno where you're from but that is prolly the most impressive looking Ford 4x4 I have ever seen. But inspite of the Atlas t'fercase (sorry the rest of mods you quoted mean nothing to me), I'm willing to pit my XJ with me behind the wheel against it, and bet $$ that where it goes, I go.

Yes, I'm that confident.

Just gonna leave this here...

Built by Josh at SFF customs in Aurora, CO. Its the Merc version of the exploder. Built D30, 8.8, custom beadlocks etc. This was the guy who did my gears in the XJ. Saw this thing in person and it is BA

Me and my coworker work on each others trucks. In fact if you go in my build thread, he's the one pulling my engine with me.
He has a 91 exploder (very well kept) and I've got the 92 cherokee.
Like you all have already said, he's got the better rear end.
He also has better turning radius with that ttb front end
of course I can out wheel him, but (and I can believe this hasn't came up) He has this little novelty called a frame. So his rig doesn't twist like a wet noodle. And I'm pretty jealous of that.

He rebuilt his engine 4 months ago (4.0) and I will say ford got it O.K. with that engine. I mean roller cam and lifters? has anyone priced out one of those for our 4.0? haha 1800$ if you haven't checked.
but I'm rebuilding mine this week and I believe I'm going to own him (It is going to be a stroker, but that's besides the point

But the real question is, if you put the same mods on an xj, who would win?

It all comes down to driver in most cases. You could have 100k buggy and not go where I go with my jeep.(Has happened more than once)

Explorer would do better in some situations than an xj, and vise versa. They have different wheel bases by far, and handle completly different.

Argue all you want, but you can't really compare built 4x4s without the same driver driving both. That's my opinion.
