As for a build thread - it began back in the days of Paragon Adventure Park: the XJ has been built in stages & just like a woman I have changed my mind so many times, not always with pics, not always making sense, PLUS I do have some mods I'm not so proud of. I started out in the direction of rice & slowly made her what she is today. Do they really have enough bandwidth on this forum for the long-winded picture ***** that I can be?

I have a 1999 Exploder 4x4 4.0 SOHC.
First off I got to say they suck, crappy design from FORD on the SOHC 4.0 when the timing chains, yes chains all 4 of them... When they need replaced you have to pull the motor, or the transmission/tcase. Mine is sitting dead in my driveway as we speak due to a bad rear chain.
Second, the transmission are notorious for failure. Mine made it to 154k before needing replaced. I have 10k on a Complete rebuilt trans with upgrade parts. Dead in the water due to timing chains.
Now with that said, I got to say it has seriously impressed me with its ability to handle mud. Stuff that ate a Rubicon, there are pictures of me rescuing the Jeep in my ford.
It was that mud that ended up causing me to finally wipe the transmission out though.
I much prefer my Jeep over the exploder. after all they are the soccer mom mobile for a reason. My wife wants me to fix the exploder for her in case the roads are bad in the winter. I want to scrap it after pulling the 8.8 for the Jeep and selling the transmission to someone.

man i have a 94 toyota pickup, that thing has been such a pain. It had so many issues and only 130K miles, not to mention so much rust it's not even funny. i know my jeep is a 2000, but it's got 150K miles and it had a bad U jont and that's it. toyota isn't nearly what people think they are. not only that, they've only recently developed a v6 that's worth anything. those 3.0s are turds that blow head gaskets like crazy, and even the 3.4, which is a good engine, had some issues.
All in all, I love my Cherokee. But Id still love to grab my grandfathers Toyota off of him.

i'll sell you mine. i put 2x as much money into that thing than it was worth. suspension is completely rebuild, new fuel system, painted frame. all it needs is a bit of body work.
