I'll mention this again. ford explorers came with an option in. the 302cu in v8. The power train is bullet proof. I can't say the same for the 4.0 OHV or DOHC v6's. Again I'm not saying one is better than the other and like stated before they are too different to compare. Both have their pros and cons. Lets just drop this discussion already.

comparing modified vehicles to modified vehicles is kind of silly. how capable an xj or explorer is off road really depends on how much money you put into it. now, how they start off is another story - but then again a completely stock xj or explorer aren't exactly rock crawlers, it just depends on which one is a better platform to begin with. so there's that...

Funy thing is... all my grandfathers neads is a the rear axle, frame, and some IFS components.

I like the older Toyota trucks... the ones that their only name was trucks... They are reliable. Will not die, only thing that will claim them in my area is rust. And their 6 cylinders may be ****ty, but there 4 bangers are not.
All in all, I love my Cherokee. But Id still love to grab my grandfathers Toyota off of him.
