xj or zj ??
I just bought my first jeep ever and what i bought is a 1991 jeep cherokee and what i may have a chance to do is trade it for a 1998 grand cherokee. The jeep i own needs new tires and the valve cover gasket replaced sway bar link replaced . The grand cherokee has a bad bcm which kills the battery after a day or so. The engine was exchanged with one out of a 99 and is a 4.7 L. with 1650000. Forgot to mention my engine is the 4.0 with 218 thousand. So im asking every one if they would trade or keep the 91? thanks guys

ZJ never had a 4.7L it was 4.0 or 5.2 or in 98 only 5.9L
ZJ have common electrical gremlins, my old one was a pain but eventually chased it to a bad relay killing the battery.
ZJ can be more prone to DW with Lifts than XJ's.
WJ's can be worse than that if you have the 4.7L you have a WJ, 99-04 model.
Got one out back with gremlins too, not got energetic about working on it yet, 4.7L HO Quadra-drive.

The motor is out of a 99 grand cherokee, are you suggesting to stay away from the grand cherokee? I would rather not mess with an electrical issue, is there anyway of detecting what the real issue is or is it trial and error?

I loved my ZJ wish I had kept it to be honest.
I like the WJ also its luxury, my old 87 XJ is typical AMC quality, if you remember them, feels like a beer can compared to the ZJ or WJ, but its been reliable as a ball peen hammer.

The 99 is a wj while the 98 is a zj and the 4.7 was only in the wj never ever came in a zj.So either hes full of crap or has a degree from M.I.T. thats what it would take to get that 4.7 in a zj and working right.

I would be a keeper of the 91 xj on that deal. At least until something better comes along, or not at all.

I meant to say the 4.6, but i think at any rate im not going to make the trade, he told me today it was a nightmare finding the right pulley im not sure if it was a tensioner pulley or the idler pulley. But because he wasnt exactly sure which engine it had in it they looked for an identical part and came up with the 4.6 out of a 99.

Keep the XJ. You can mod the seat to be farther back. For example, Misch 4x4 also makes (or at least made?) brackets that would set the seat back 3-4 more inches.

it is really easy to move your seat back in a xj , i just made new holes farther back . I also cut my seat feet and shortened them 2" so my seat sits lower , i am a very large guy and needed all the room i could get
