zj v8 in an xj???
anybody ever done it, if so how much fabrication would be involved and is it even worth it. i know they made zj's with aw4's so i guess thats what you'd have to use

Thats too much work for only 30-40 increase in horsepower. I know its hypothetical, but id go with a hemi or a small block engine if i were to change. Someone on here has a Chevy 350 in his, but he bought it that way.

Wouldn't a GM350 be really cheap, easy to find, easy to get parts, and be the same amount of work as the 408?

4.7 5.2 5.9 are all small blocks just like a 350 small block which is a 5.7 and they are all about the same h.p.A hemi can and has been done but we dont have that kind of money to blow.So you wont be doing that one

It can be done Ive seen a 360 (5.9) in a mj and an xj. It will cost a good chunk of money but if you can fab and weld and do electric, you can do itYou can run a 727 4wd tranny or the newer ones to. Also you will be able to ru n a 205 trans case which is one hell of a case. Many options on trannys and transfer cases also good choices of which motor,Just quite a bit of time and money will be invested.

I guarantee you'll find a GM350 for less than the total cost of a 408 stroker, so yes, it would indeed be cheap.
And just as much fabrication would go into the GM350, so ease of install is a wash. You still have to fab, one way or the other.
I can see not wanting to use anything else but a Jeep motor, though.

Those 5.3s are pretty good motors as well. I helped a buddie of mine do a HG on one, not too tough to work on.
On a side note, with all the bracketry and such that GM puts on their motors, I've found them to be one of my least favorites to turn a wrench on.
