I think we should invest in tazers, nets and harnesses. if we catch the zombies we can train them to work for us.

The can turn turbines for electricity, carry stuff, maybe even a dog(zombie).

If the world runs out of gas, and the algae pond isnt ready yet, we can chain them to the front of the XJ like some crazy santa with zombie reindeer and have them pull the Jeep everywhere. Convert the steering to a big stick hanging out of the hood with zombie bait on it to direct them where to go. If they misbehave just taze em.

The best part would be if someone who was a non-zombie pissed you off you could have one of your zombie reindeer bite them. When they convert you can chain them to the front of your reindeer team as rudolf. Paint their nose red, so that you can chuckle everytime you walk by.

I can't even run twenty miles an hour and I have only seen two movies where the zombies actually run fast, shaun of the dead and zombieland, I don't think speed would be too much of an issue, considering that thing, even large can go well over forty when it needs to

Agreed, on the back of that plow truck id still use the salt spreader but instead id take a bunch of nails and bend them up and stick them together to make caltrops and fill up the back of the truck, so if the zombies step on them itll make them off balance when they walk and make them fall over. Id also cut a hole in the roof mount a machine gun up there (theres got to be at least one humvee around considering the army would definetly be out to try and protect people) also some underbody protection and id replace the doors with some armored car doors as well as some glass from an armored car. Maybe even some of that glass with wire in it, But thats if something should happen to the xj.

Cool thread, my buddy and I are always talkin' about how to "zombie-proof" our XJ's! when it comes down to it though, cars will be useless once you run out of gas. That will be a sad day to leave my XJ behind with the zombies

Dang alot of killer ideas. I'd jump in one of your guys jeeps. Or I would do like all ya say and gut mine out make it lighter to modify mine like crazy full out exo cage window guards, light guards, brush guard, flame throw exhaust, mounts for guns or slits in the sides/windows for shootin. Depends on the zombies maybe some uv lights like in "I am legend". Extra fuel tank/cells or would convert to a diesel and make my own fuel. I'd take a few people to watch my six but you get bitten I'm droppin ya. Double tap. Then I'd find the best location for high ground and hold it till I had to move out

Love the ideas, but I would do things just a little differently.

First, all the armor and such, plexi/similar glass type windows mounted in securely maybe with some screws as xj windows arent held in by much and it wouldnt take much for a zomb to pull or shake one out. Then throw in the most dependable engine i could find within the surrounding homes or just keep mine if i cant find anything better. Replace all lights with power sipping LED's to save power a roof rack with a 12V solar panel to recharge batteries in the daytime and a capacitor to help with engine starting. Definitely a manual tranny no matter the motor so it can be roll started if all else fails. pistons like used in cherry pickers to secure the jeep to the ground should a zombie mobbing occur to prevent being rolled over. Rip hatch off and weld on steel plate extension to add room for guns and ammo and to replace weak 96 down hatch with steel. Reduce engine noise as much as possible so to not alert zombies when you drive by. Definitely get a hornblasters train horn so to have an emergency signal and OBA for when you need it. Could think of alot more but my head hurts


Also, with some of you more Northern XJ's I'd be checking those floorboards to make sure they dont just pop their head in through the rusted out floorboards Thats why i love living in the South lol

Watching that walking dead show makes me just think how much i would want and hate an xj. i would love being able to escape in any terrain and not worrying about jumping in to find a dead vehicle that wont start or something like that, but i would hate having to syphon all that gas these jeeps use
