Have the stupid California emissions exhaust manifold. If i switch to a 99 exhaust manifold I will need to replace computer with 99 or so model year. Any else I'm not seeing ? Just plug and play ?

I think you would also have to change the wiring harness . I think it would be more work then it's worth . easier to buy a older xj .

It may be possible to put in the 99 manifold if you where to weld in 3 extra bungs into the 99 style down pipe. Use o2 sensor defoulers for the down stream sensors. You would need to source extra long o2 sensors or extend the wires. Fitting all that will be a project with no guarantee of it working.

I keep my 96 ecu happy with no cat and an o2 defouler.

Let's just say it's extremely doable, as I may or may not have done it myself.

A theoretical parts list:
- A different PCM
- Different Exhaust Header
- Different Downpipe to Cat
- An O2 connector out of a parts XJ for Rear O2 extension

Is it legal...not exactly.

Does it throw any codes...nope.
