I hope you're not planning on using your rear bumper for recovery, or at least have a frame mounted hitch. If those ring tabs don't rip the stock 4-bolt mounts on the XJ will. Just my opinion, but I've seen it happen.

If you're looking for a direct swap, Novak Adapters and Advance Adapters make the motor mounts. I like how the Novak ones rap around the frame and use more bolts for added strength but you will need to egg out a few of the holes on the drivers mount to get it to fit with the '84-'86's. You will also need to notch one of the holes just to get the bolt of all into it. In the mounting aspect to the frame, I prefer Novak. In the bushing aspect, I prefer AA for ease. But I guess that comes from someone who has taken the engine out atleast 10 times now...

For headers, the only direct fit ones for a Cherokee are the Sanderson block hugger headers. If you go that route, buy them from Novak as they are the cheapest (even cheaper than Sanderson). I can get close picture this weekend if you'd like since the engine will be coming out.

Check my sig for my build. I would say dare to be different but it seems these swaps are getting mainstream.

I have an 86 with the 2.8L and I would love to do this. Using a motor that has a carb would be way easier, wouldn't it? No wiring harness needed, right? Doesn't Novak suggest that you have at least a three inch lift on your jeep so your diff doesn't smash into your oil pan?

I like the camo paint/blue acc. look. I thought about the red urban camo for mine.

They say you do but the Advance Adapters one sits about the same point so you would need the lift for that also. It comes down to which oil pan you are running and where you set their mounts at with the adjustment. When I was running the 8.5" lift with the 350, my UCA mount on the axle would hit the exhaust at full stuff (or atleast full stuff till it hit the exhaust), but that's with a custom run exhaust as high as I could get it.

Yes, carb is easiest. If you want to keep the mechanical fuel pump, you will have to run the fuel lines to the passenger side though. The fuel pump on the 2.8L is on the drivers with the fuel pump on the 5.7L is on the passenger side.

You're about 1hr 10mins away if you wanted to come see the whole setup in person. Feel free to PM me and I can throw you my phone number and address. I'm going to be yanking the engine in the next day or two and work on swapping TPI into my Jeep.
