231 Transfer case SYE question
I am planing on putting in a SYE for my 95 XJ with 6.5 lift.
My question is if there is a stock shaft(from which car?) that I can just put in without any major mods.
Also any other relevant info or tips that might help me in the process.

i have done that already, but still does not look like the SYE kit is too much work thou and for almost the same money.

depends on the transfer case. a 231 can use an install SYE, whereas a 242 has to be a hack n tap.
as for yours, like mentioned, you should be able to get away with using a stock front driveshaft from an automatic XJ

I came across this in my travels and thought it was a real SYE.

So this is a hack n tap and not an SYE?

They both eliminate the slip yoke, the hack n tap is a cheaper way of doing and you don't have to take your transfer case apart to install it. The full SYE kit gives you a bigger output shaft, but output shaft failures aren't common, even with the stock output.

nope, i stand corrected. that is an actual SYE. they are/were rare for a 242, but it seems that is a rather expensive kit for the 242. and yes, you need to swap out the shaft with the use of that kit, but it's a much better design than a hack n tap.
