Fair enough!

 

There is not much of a comparison between the General Grabbers and the General Grabber At 2. My neighbor had the At 2 and loved them. He put 60,000 miles on them and was talked into getting the Grabber and not the At 2 and he HATES them. I have the Grabber At 2 on my Jeep and I am quite pleased with them.

 

Hmm this is getting a bit intense lol.

I Know the BF Goodrich has a long history, and is a well proven tire that should last; looks good on any XJ.

I had never heard of "General" tires before this, but after some research the at2's seem to be quite a promising tire for the money, and don't look too bad...

Grown on to those Hankook MT's, they look a tad better than the BFG's it seems; I have read that Hankook uses a harder rubber, so this could be good or bad, longer lasting...?

Goodyear Duratracs are nice too, if they were cheaper-just not very impressed with their rubber quality after the experience with my GY Wranglers.

So maybe here in my confusion to make a decision, I'll just buy one of each brand, see how that goes.

Ahh lookin good there, its a nice model XJ, I like the Colorado Red paint a lot, and in some ways the "sport" vinyl is outdated, but it gives it some personality with the red and is kind of a rare setup-its an unofficial 50th anniversary, I am told...I would really like to get the "star" type rims from a 98 (like Boost Happy has) or the one they put on the classics for the same year, I like most of the stock Jeep rims even over aftermarket ones, just not so much the "10 hole" ones I have or they generic steel rims they make.

And BTW Boost Happy, that is an awesome looking XJ you have, its clean and you didn't mess with cutting it up, I like the forest green paint a lot as well. I don't recall seeing many XJ's with the "Sport" logo and pinstripes together; pinstripes seemed to be on limiteds only.

 

Thank you, I try to keep it clean looking as I still daily it. Im not a big fan of cut up XJ's myself. Although since those picture I have "trimmed" up my front flare so she can flex with out tearing off the flares with the larger tires.
As for the Pinstrip, I think its was added by previous owner, I did remove it due to it looking goofy when doors were off.

 

I've seen the ta k/o's do work on and off road. For an all terrain they killed it off road, never missed a beat following some very aggressive tires

 

Yeah, I myself never was a fan of cutting or messing with the stock appearance overall on an XJ, unless you are going all out and making the truck a "MOAB monster"; something you need to tow with a trailer lol.
Looks better without the pinstripe fer sure though, I'm not to sure why anyone would want to add one on there. Was it gold?

 

Going back to tires, I have come up with a top 3 thus far; if anyone would like to sway my thoughts at all feel free, got some good posts going here...

1. General Grabber AT2: these to me are quite close in appearance and performance to the BFG AT's and cost approx. $140 which is my main reason for putting them as #1 and they look fairly aggressive. Good value tires.

2. BFG AT's: The tire and brand is well proven, they look good and seem to put out a "50/50" approach when it comes to off road and on pavement, and this is good. An all around tire that will go plenty of miles.

3. Hankook Dynapro MT's: look pretty good, have a really good looking tread pattern, priced in between the GG's and BFG's, and of course that rare time I end up in mud, I am a tad more prepared with these over the other two tires.

Thats my brief from what I have gathered in comparing them so far I suppose...

Yeah thats what I thought originally, just wasn't sure if the camera was just dulling any gold sparkle. Seems silly, I would rather have it match the color of the sport logo if I was going to put pinstripes on it...But then I don't really care for tan/tan interiors either ha.
Anyways...

 

I've had the General AT2's on my XJ for a couple of months now. No mud ,ice or snow experiences yet. LOTS of loose surface steep road and highway experience though. So far real good. Tires took a minimal amount of weights to balance them and were rechecked for balance 3wks later with no added weights needed. About all I can tell you except that the AT2 is the top selling A/T tire in our area right now. Owner of the store had his second set on his Toyota p/u.

After sleeping on it, this is kinda my top 3 now:

1. General Grabbers AT2: They are basically the same as the BFG's at a better price to put it bluntly and have a 60k Warranty I believe (can anyone verify this?)

2. Hankook Dynapros aTM: for a while I was going with the MT's over these, but honestly with my Jeep being on the pavement 80-85% of the time, I need something that is more for street-I know I have read the MT's do well on pavement, but they still wear quicker than your average quality AT, and wear is a large thing I am taking into consideration for my decision.

3. BFGoodrich AT's: Pretty much comes down to the brand on this one, its a proven name and proven tire, but besides that I am not seeing anything else amazing standing out for these tires; I am finding more and more articles of people pointing out the design is becoming slowly dated and that they don't do quite as good in wet weather as the ones above. So for the extra bucks, it seems like I might just be paying for the name and not really any advantages over the GG's or Hankooks.


Runners up:
4. Hankook Dynapro MT's: just don't seem like a tire I need for a 80% DD.

5. Goodyear Duratracs: I would give these a try if I had an extra $2-300 to spend on them, but once again, in my experience with Goodyear, the rubber is too soft; my Wrangler Radials only have about 35k on them maybe 3.5-4 years old and they are cracked all over the place; so much they look as if they could go at any time. They all have tiny chunks of rubber missing all around the edges all over the place. Only about 1K is offroad use on them.
So I don't know, to my that is not the best impression to help me on buying another set of Goodyears.

 

I only run bfg on my jeep. The ats are a good tire wear nice Im currantly running 235/75/15 kmt2 mud terrains but would recommend the BFG AT over the good year any day. They will handle anything you throw at them and are budjet friendly.

 

get the bfg's. i have 30x9.5x15 bfg a/t's on my xj and they are awesome in snow and rain and have never let me down in mud. get them and be done

edit: this is my dd for a 45 minute drive to work and 45 minutes back and is my weekend offroader. had them for 10 months now
