A carbed SB Chevy is probably the simplest and easiest to understand of any setup in existence. Only exceeded by maybe a 2-stroke weedwacker engine.

My concern would be the legality of getting it smogged.

If jeep is a 1997, then motor has to be a 1997+ for smog reasons.

the longblock from 91 to 1999.5 was the same with the exception of the earlier motors had a spot for the coolant temp sensor in the back of the head and in 95 there were a couple additional modifications to the block to help combat NVH (i never notice a difference)
