Default 400 SBC Engine Swap

So I'm contemplating doing an engine swap; dropping in a modified 400 SBC. I have all the parts to build a 387 Stroker. This project would be quite a ways down the road, after I add lift and a few other modifications. Any thoughts, or has anyone heard of such a conversion?

those motors are known to run hot, not good for a off road rig. sbc 305 or 350 a better choice. nothing wrong w/ a 6 cyl. stroker & it fits right back in, no mods.

5.3 or 6.0L are miles ahead of the old SBC.

I've been building and racing SBC's for the last 25 yrs. 350's stroked to 364 ci. and 400's stroked with a 3 9/16" crank currently running a Dart block/heads twin turbo 1500+ HP.

A 400 swap into an XJ isn't a good idea really considering all the changes and parts required for it to work and not needed. There are so many other good swaps out there to consider or even stroke your 4.0 lots do and will give you about all the XJ needs except for all out racing.

Yep yep.
5.3's are a dime a dozen, and EFI works much better on the trail than old school carb setups.

4l80e is too big and requires a lot of tunnel cutting to get it under the rig.

Thanks. I'll just hold on that SBC until I get another vehicle mates up a bit better. I've also thought about the Cummins 4BT swap, but I'm not sure I want to deal with all that noise
